Yesterday I posted on the 2nd Battalion/5th Marines plan to hold their Marine Corps Birthday ball at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and the Battalion's effort to raise money to pay for bus transportation and defray the cost of the tickets for the young Marines who will find the cost a bit high.
The Battalion has been washing cars on the weekend (and are doing so again at the Jiffy Lube on La Paz in Mission Viejo tomorrow) and providing security at Chargers games to get $ into the kitty.
I asked Sgt. Matthew Hays if the unit would accept contributions from grateful Americans who can't get to the car wash, and he assured me that would be fine. So drop a check, payable to 2nd Battalion/5th Marines, with a notation Marine Corps Birthday Carwash Fund, to:
Sgt. Major Jordan 2nd Battallion/5th Marines P.O. Box 555473 Camp Pendleton California 92055
TOPICS: Announcements; Miscellaneous; US: California; War on Terror
KEYWORDS: happybirthday; marinecorps; usmc
If you contribute you'll find that your car will get better gas mileage...and ring around the collar will be a thing of the past.

La Paz is a pretty big street. I call information. Thanks

Marines are holding car washes every Saturday at site. And Jiffy Lube partial proceeds go to Marines. Location is at La Paz and Commerce Center Drive. One Block East of Marguerite Pkwy.

Yeah, we did this type of thing all the time. The Corps has really narrowed the options for MC Ball fundraising over the years, so we have to do what we can. I pulled security at a rock concert at Coors Amphitheatre to raise money. Everyone chips in (Company grade officers and below) and the money is good. We do raise a lot of money with "underground" geedunks but MCCS/MWR are always gunning for them.

Your regulations on fundraising must be more lenient than ours. Army regs limited my last unit severely on what we could/couldn't do for similar fundraising. I'm certain that 'contracting out security' would have been on the 'no freakin' way' list with JAG.

The security we normally do is in the uniform of the contractor (usually a jacket)and it is hands off. We are just a presence to alert the real security. More or less to catch gate crashers and discourage troublemakers.
