(Columbia-AP) September 20, 2005 - The American Civil Liberties Union wants three Upstate governments to stop mentioning Jesus Christ in prayers before council meetings. The ACLU has written Anderson and Seneca city councils and Oconee County Council asking them to follow a federal court ruling.
The Fourth US Circuit Court of Appeals last year upheld a lower court ruling that prayers before Great Falls Town Council were unconstitutional because they honored one faith over another by mentioning Jesus. The US Supreme Court refused to consider the town's appeal.
Mike Cubelo of the ACLU says the organization will sue if necessary.

Do you get the idea that the ACLU is obsessed with its opposition to religion?

"The establishment of an American Soviet government will involve the confiscation of large landed estates in town and country, and also, the whole body to forests, mineral deposits, lakes, rivers and so on." - William Z. Foster, ACLU co-founder and former chairman, Communist Party USA.

When can we wipe these vermin out? THAT is what I want to know.
Just makes you proud to be an American, doesn't it?
Join us while we try our best too.
May God smite them with a curse.
Back in January, 1996, Pastor Joe Wright, Wichita, KS was asked to open the KS Legislative session with prayer. A number of people expected the usual generalities, asking God to bless the actions, etc. instead this is what they got:
"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
*We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
*We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
*We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
*We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
*We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
*We have abused power and called it politics.
*We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
*We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
*We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!"
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea.
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.
With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "One nation under God." If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends.
"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for everything."

What I get, is that the tolerance for these communist maggots in this country is sickening...
ACLU = Anti-Christ Lawyers Union
They are certainly living down to that moniker.........
Join us in our fight!
Thanks but I was thinking of more drastic and immediate means.
They have gone from a decent organzation that set out to help protect rights, to pushing an biased political ideology.
I was watching a news clip yesterday. Don't know what State, but the story was covering the opening of that State's House of Representatives, and the interest was focused on whether or not the person leading the "Pledge of Allegiance" was going to leave in the phrase "under God."
The person DID include "under God" but I swear that he got it in the wrong order.
He said "One Nation, indivisible, under God." I almost fell out of my chair. Everyone in attendance was pleased, someone gave two "thumbs up". They were SO proud. But they didn't get it right! Geez!
Did anyone else see this?
If we build the front up, no matter how slow, we can build a support base that can do some damage. We hope to grow to the point we can make some really good marches happen.
I didn't know the US Congress passed a law ordering the Anderson and Seneca city councils to mention Jesus in council prayers.
Absolutely nefarious these congresscritters.
"...ACLU wants three councils to change prayers..."
I want the aclu to pucker up and kiss my perpetual vertical smile. They'll know where that is. It looks like the image they see in the mirror.
Everyone picks on Christianity and gives other religions a pass.
Kind of makes you wonder if there isn't something to the Christian thing...why else would it be hated so much?
Me thinks they protesteth too much...
Just a thought..........how about we get the latest press release from CAIR, about how muslims are discriminated against, looked at wrong, hate speech, etc, etc., then change the wording from muslim to Christian and then file the same charges against the ACLU??
Just a thought.
Their name is really the ANTI-CHRISTIAN LITIGATION UNIT.
fizziwig, you a smart person! Follow your logic.
Put out an RFP (Request For Proposal) for any organization to get a non-monetary contract (maybe avoiding some EO laws since there's no money in it) to perform prayers. Local preachers will create such an organization and bid. Select them. The council is not giving the prayers, and anyone who wants to give prayers (say, a satanist) has to join the contracted organization, and will be refused.
By depending on state laws, I meant it won't work if the law says all contractors must do EO. But if the law says no state money will go to to anyone not doing EO, it may work.
"fizziwig, you a smart person! Follow your logic."
I already have....it was tongue and cheek....I am already a Christian.....one of those ones dragged into it kicking and screaming...
This is absurd. They're also suing the Speaker of the House, personally, for mentioning Jesus in prayer on the House floor.
There have been men and women of every faith who have given the opening prayer in both the House and the Senate. No one religion is excluded.
The ACLU needs to wake up and realize that they are in the heart of the Red States, and none of us are amused by this.
By the way Jay... nice to see some people our age coming around. Keep up the good fight. :)
"Do you get the idea that the ACLU is obsessed with its opposition to religion?"
I know, I just can't figure it out. Why do people keep thinking Democrats hate God? Hillary prays too, you know!
Even Howard Dean said they have to take back religion in the Democrat party.
The problem is, all those little people in the red states WILL keep watching what Dems do instead of what they say...
Whenever I see an ACLU attorney, they usually have disheveled hair, glasses and facial hair. And that's just the women! The men are worse. I'd love to see research done to see where some of these so-called attorneys graduated in their class. If they had any smarts, I'd bet they would be working in a major law firm or corporate law.
Just my opinion.
If you ask a minister to pray, then you are the one creating an established religion if you tell him what he is permitted to pray and not permitted to pray.
We have many denominations and religions in America. An adult realizes they are all different.
Let me see if I understand this. Atheists want to be able to tell religious people how to pray. Did I miss something?
how can you say it has gone "from" something rationally good when it's founders were communists attempting to promote communistic ideals?
The problem is that the American People have been lulled to sleep. We are willing to Tolerate Diversity and Tolerate other religious beliefs to the extent that our own religious beliefs are being CRUSHED.
It is time to wake up and fight back or to enjoy being a Crushee.
I suspect "Crusades II" is in our future. It's just a matter of time.
"Thanks but I was thinking of more drastic and immediate means."

"They have gone from a decent organzation that set out to help protect rights, to pushing an biased political ideology."
They started out communist, by a communist.
"Kind of makes you wonder if there isn't something to the Christian thing...why else would it be hated so much?"
Doesn't make Christians wonder at all.
The Fourth US Circuit Court of Appeals last year upheld a lower court ruling that prayers before Great Falls Town Council were unconstitutional because they honored one faith over another by mentioning Jesus.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
Exactly what does something that a town council do have anything to do with a law passed by Congress? How can it be unconstitutional? Is knowledge of the Constitution still mandatory for someone to become a justice?
SC - ACLU - Anderson/Seneca Towns & Oconee county...
I want to see a resolution drafted by one of these city councils telling the ACLU to literally f*ck off. Someone HAS TO tell these un-american jerks just what people think of them.
The ACLU (like all liberals) divides the population into two factions: an abstract "host" population, and "The Other." It then demands in the name of "secularism" that the name of the god of the "Abstract Host Population" not be honored in any way. However, explicity public honor and recognition of the gods of "The Other" merely demonstrates what a tolerant, pluralist, multicultural, secular "paradise" the society is.
Why don't the Black or Eastern and Oriental Churches ever speak up on issues like this?
