Try Kaspersky Anti-virus, I think you might like it. Picked up bugs I never knew about.

You might enjoy this thread. Hey, did I tell you we've got a new padaria and churrascaria within blocks of my house now?

Any closer and I'll have to sue Brasil in one of those "fatty lawsuits". Actually my wife is more interested in the padaria than I am now. She loves the dolce de leite cakes they make.

You might try interposing the Proxomitron proxy between your browser and the Net. If it then blocks the pop-ups from a site you'd prefer not to have blocked, you can place that site on a bypass list:

Proxomitron info

Proxomitron downloads

I'm supposed to be very protected too.

I don't surf.

I visit FreeRepublic, Drudge, Google sports groups, sports illustrated.

I visit links per FR. That's it...and I am bombarded by $hit emails for porn sites (never visited).

I even changed email accounts as an experiment and within a few days, the spam starts again.

Erectile dysfunction...porn...mortgage...ebay account updates (don't have one)

It's sickening.

They should start charging a nickel for every email you send. That would stop the crap.

By the way, did I miss anything Security wise?

A firewall?

Try Zone Labs. It is very good and free.

I use Sygate Firewall, it stands up to every on-line portscan I've found.

My surfing habits are much like yours, Drudge, FR, Only KNOWN news domains, and KNOWN trusted sites, I have learned how to DEFEAT the spam monster though...

I have not received but one or 2 spams per month...

This is how I did it. I got two Gmail accounts, One for my close friends and associates to use, I made it long and lugbrious with lots of periods, something like this.

blah.blah.blabberty@gmail.com

I made another to give to "Casual acquaintences" or folks that I suspect like to pass on every "cute" A.O.L. e-mail they happen across, that one is even longer...

Spambots discard long names as nonviable e-mail addys and the periods throw them off too.

I NEVER never never never never give my ISP issued E-mail to -ANYONE- but my online banking and similar institutions.

Gmail is great at weeding out the one or two spams per month. If you need a Gmail account let me know, though I think they are free now and easily obtainable.

The bonus 3 GIGS!!! of storage!!!!

You're a hypochondriac. Pick one good commercial virus scanner (and Trend's PC Cillan is a good one), and perhaps the MS antispyware, if you like, keep them up to date, and call it good. Get rid of everything else.

Most of the crap those other freeware scareware programs find are perfectly harmless cookies. And I suspect, they are a self-fullfilling prophecy. They want you to be afraid.

" You're a hypochondriac."

Ya that's it, a harmless lil' ol' Keystroke logger."
-I don't know what I was thinking! -Tell ya what, I'll continue to avail myself of the good advice that shows up in these threads, -and maybe learn a bit as I go.

-You can sit-back, relax and let Microsoft worry about a-l-l-l-l those naggling little spyware problems ;> Happy surfing!

I've never had one bit of spyware or adware infect my machine. Not once! Never had a virus, never had a bit of the trouble that all the folks that use all that freeware crap get, so what should I assume?

I'm smart, use good products, keep them up to date and I haven't needed to bog myself down with every freeware scareware tool some kid has worked up in his garage.

Surfing is happy for me.... you were the one that said you were "really starting to get disgusted with the net."

This is obsolete advice, I believe.

The spyware/malware crap that has been showing up at a rapidly increasing rate over the last several months is visciously more difficult to detect and to remove.

None of the spyware removers can get more than perhaps half to two-thirds of it. You have to run several of them to get decent coverage.

See the links I posted earlier in this thread for better advice.
