John Kerry will vote against John Roberts

I will vote against the nomination of John Roberts to serve as Chief Justice of the United States. I refuse to vote for a Supreme Court nominee who came before the Senate intent on demonstrating his ability to deftly deflect legitimate questions about his views, opinions and philosophy.

If he is confirmed – and he may well be – the Roberts Court will shape the course of constitutional law for decades to come. It will decide dozens of cases that will define the depth and breadth of freedom in America – our commitment to civil rights, our dedication to civil liberties, our devotion to privacy and a woman's right to choose.

With that much at stake, Judge Roberts needed to show us where his heart is. Instead he recited case law and said little about what he really thought.

While I recognize that other members of the Senate will legitimately make a different choice, I will vote “NO” on the Roberts nomination.

If we do, I'll never vote Republican again for any national election. LOTS of people voted for BUSH twice simply because of the Supreme Court.

If anyone should be noted for the 'deftly avoiding answers to questions" it is John Kerry. He has never answered the charges from the Swift Boat Vets and STILL hasn't released the full Form 180.

What a sore loser. He's voted against every single Bush nominee for anything!

That is putting lipstick on a pig. Kerry will not vote for anyone who will not legislate from the bench the way Kerry wants him/her to. Anyone who wants to act as a nonpartisan "judge" and only interpret the law is outside Kerry's criteria. And, God Forbid, anyone who might legislate from the bench in a political manner different from Kerry's views is also outside.

Future nominees will follow this model and Kerry will vote against them too. There is no question as to who is politicizing the nomination and confirmation process.
