Extremely dangerous and large Category Five Hurricane Rita is churning westward across the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas. Air Force Reconnaissance indicated the central pressure has dropped to 904mb, making Rita the fifth most intense hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin.
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Northern Mexico through the South Louisiana coastline. Galveston TX used school buses to evacuate residents. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect along the Texas coastline.

Glad to see Texas has it more together as far as Evacs.
Prayers that prayers won't be needed, if you catch my drift.
Cheers!
Ditto!
What's the record low barometric pressure for a hurricane? BTW, thanks for these threads. I lurk quite a bit trying to catch up on information.
my advice: run!
Is anyone watching that judge on WHOU? He is begging for ambulances and troopers.
Latest recon report: 904 mb. Now ranks in the TOP FIVE of all-time since keeping records... (Gilbert @ 888mb, 1935 Labor Day 'Cane, Allen, Katrina (902)).
That's quite a stunning post. Thanks Mike.
Presidential Prayer Team Urges Prayer re path of hurricane "Rita." http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1488886/posts
I am sure it has been said before but it cannot hurt.
Let us pray for those in the path of this storm.
Thanks for the information.
Here here!
Lovely Rita meter maid
nothing can come between us
When it gets dark I tow your heart away
Standing by a parking meter
when I caught a glimpse of Rita
Filling in a ticket in her little white book
In a cap she looked much older
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man
Lovely Rita meter maid
may I inquire discreetly
When are you free to take some tea with me
Took her out and tried to win her
had a laugh and over dinner
Told her I would really like to see her again
Got the bill and Rita paid it
Took her home and nearly made it
Sitting on a sofa with a sister or two
Lovely Rita meter maid
where would I be without you
give us a wink and make me think of you
Lovely meter maid
Rita meter maid
oh, Lovely Rita meter, meter maid
I managed to get that info into the header of this thread...along with the fact that Galveston uses school buses for evacuations.
I'm with you, Rose! Amen!
Looks like this could truely be the real New Deal for all of us. Nothing fills the void of a passing hurricane better than government.
It looks lots of rain for us in Oklahoma City.
You catch his name?
Does anyone know if there are computer models that go past 5 days?
Mega dittos!
And, Godspeed to all in her path.
Buy another gun. Buy SWB stock.
Just reported on MSNBC: Rita got bigger today -- and so did the hurricane.

If it doesn't, we're all in bigger trouble than we thought. :)

Willey? I think that was how it was spelled.
Just as Jesus said to Lucifer; "Get thee behind me, Satan!", only You can rebuke this storm!! We know it, God, we praise You and we thank You!

When The Levee Breaks
(Bonham/Jones/Page/Plant/Memphis Minnie)
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, (X2)
When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, (X2)
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.
Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.
Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
All last night sat on the levee and moaned, (X2)
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....
I can't imagine owning a house on the coast of Texas, knowing that is going to be wiped off the face of the earth within a few days, and knowing that there is NOTHING I can do to stop it.
There is a link at the top of this thread for both the sign in thread, and the FReeper shelter offer thread.
Record low in the Atlantic was Hurricane Gilbert at 888 mb. Rita is now #5 all time at 904 mb, just behind Katrina.
Record low world-wide was 870 mb in Typhoon Tip, out in the Pacific.

What can I say?! By faith alone and it's His will, not mine! 9-11 didn't humble us, Katrina didn't do it, let me tell you, there's a whole bunch of folks on their knees tonight! His will be done! I can only pray by faith, that's all I got!
Thanks again for running these threads.
Ditto from me - many thanks
As long as you are playing God, could you FM the Powerball numbers?
I hear one westbound lane around Gautier and Pascagoula is out...If you come that way, go on I-12 at Baton Rouge and reconnect with I-10 at Slidell.
That would make a great tagline.
Thank you for all your work on this project. God bless, FRiend.
Anyone have any hints on Hurricane preparation that the regular preparation guides will not say.
One thing I heard was to put your ice cream in a trash bag or just throw it away because it is very ugly in the freezer when it melts.
Try to think back to November, 1992, when it became clear that Clinton was going to win. It's kinda like that.
I looked at the map of all the rigs in that area. Thanks for the link. I wonder what the impact will be to natural gas and oil if the hurricane tracks as predicted. Has anybody heard any predictions?
