He looks demonically possessed to me. All I can say to him is "you're first in line."

Welcome Orbusmax readers!
A council spokeswoman said: "He recognised he'd said something deeply inappropriate that could cause offence and resigned straight away."
It's too late - he exposed what's in his heart. Now with more time on his hands, he can take care of himself. He can start with trimming his eyebrows and work his way down to cutting out the meanness in his heart.
Considering that he has apparently not apologized at all or given any indication that he understands the hurt that he has caused so very many people, I would venture to suggest that this latter part of your suggestion, while entirely appropriate for a person with an otherwise healthy mind and disposition would likely not be applicable in this 'man's' case.
He is probably like a number of doctors that I have met who are so utterly arrogant and condescending that they are completely unwilling to entertain the notion, even for a moment, that they might actually be wrong; even if presented with a truckload of evidence. It's always the other person who is too stupid to understand the greatness of his mind and the sanctity of his purpose. No one can stand to work with him but they are forced to because of his position in relation to theirs.
Fortunately in this case, his mouth has extended itself just a bit beyond the normal confines of his petty fiefdom and the world has registered it's universal disdain for him. Given his advanced age, he will likely die a bitter man, believing to the last that he was completely right and everyone else was too stupid to understand, just as so many old Socialists die as old embittered fools, never seeing the light..
I believe we can rest assured that the person who replaces him will have a kind heart and will treat disabled children as well as everyone else with the courtesy, consideration and love that they deserve.
I agree. No apology because he believes he is right and everyone else is wrong. Doctors can be a prideful group.
Yeah, I know, I was just generalizing and painting with broad brushes, like the SS captain, Herr Owen Lister.
