Check his family lineage. He must be direct descendant of Marie Antoinette.

There was a decision about the placement of severely disabled children at a cost of £3,000 per child per week....

That's roughly $5000 a week.  So to care for 100 severely disabled children would run half a million dollars  a week. Whew. Socialized medicine isn't just inefficient, it's wildly expensive.

Whoops! My error! In re-reading the sentence that you referred to , I realized that they are referring to the TOWN, not the Dr. /Deputy Mayor.

Swindon is the town, Lister is the 'man'.

So, the Sun's sentence is far simpler than I had thought. All they are saying is that Lister should jump off a pier, but hecause Swindon doesn't have one, he can't.

Very simple, and this is what happens when I don't read things carefully :-)

I don't doubt for a minute these sorts of decisions would happen in this country if the 'rats ever succeed in forcing socialized medicine on us.

You're not far off... because mainstream medicine is beginning to accept the ideology of a "life-boat" mindset. I work with these children and some of the up-and-coming professionals deem these kids "useless eaters" who serve no purpose.

This is yet another exhibit of what happens to societal mentality when God and accountability are taken out of our indoctrination camps... (schools/colleges.)

You know, when people hit 75, 80, they start to run up an awful lot of medical costs. . . .

The problem is that he thinks he's above the norm and still serves a purpose in society. I've debated these types and they have no regard for death ...or answering to God for their actions. Makes a person quite COLD....don't you think?

It is important to recognize that in a free society, who ever wants to help the indigent, lame, halt, or blind is free to do so, or not, as they may chose. There is then, no public policy, but rather each person decides on their private policy for themselves.

In an unfree society, some people's resources are taken and spend in accordance with the public policy, on who ever the public policy mavens decide. At what level of support? It is also a matter of public policy.

The German Weimar republic used euthanasia as a policy long before Hitler. People with polio, war veterans, victims of illness, retarded, all were taken from their families, shuffled off to institutions where they could be "with their own kind", and then killed by their doctors as a matter of public policy. That policy continued after the Nazi takeover, still continued after the Allied victory until 1955. The killing of Jews, Gypsies, political dissidents was not a departer from Weimar policy, but rather, an expansion of it to fulfill the Nazi racist fantasies.

The only broad exception was for attractive retarded women, who were given hysterectomies, and then became the most popular prostitutes in town.

We live in a free society that provides for our infirm... via OUR tax $$. Our institutions are training our young people to think and reason like those which live in a non-free or socialist society....which means leaving God/morality on the shelf. Conscience is too cumbersome.

Uh, I think you would benefit from a short walk around the block. I don't advocate euthanasia.

It is important to recognize that in a free society, who ever wants to help the indigent, lame, halt, or blind is free to do so, or not, as they may chose. There is then, no public policy, but rather each person decides on their private policy for themselves.

Indeed, this is one of the issues with the Terri Schiavo case: if Michael had announced to all the world that at some particular date he would drop his "wife" on a certain park bench somewhere and have nothing further to do with her, then if nobody acted to rescue her he could be said to have "let her die". Of course, if he had done that her parents would almost certainly have taken her in and cared for her, and she would have lived.

What is abhorrent is not that Michael et al. refused to provide care for Terri, but rather that they refused to let anyone else do so either.

One can make a sound case that a person's need for something does not justify forcing others to provide it (and thus that there is no government obligation to provide taxpayer-funded care). On the other hand, that in no way implies that the government has any right to prevent others from providing care voluntarily.

"The only difference between a terminally ill patient and a severely handicapped child is time."

Actually, the only difference between a perfectly health person and a terminally ill patient is time.

Because this monster made his comments only in the context of helpless children, I doubt that you have much to worry about personally as he appears to not only be a breathtakingly cold-hearted person but a coward as well.  Although I'm delighted that this person is 'retired' as a doctor and has stepped down from one of the offices that he holds, the matter begs the question of how many decisions did he make during his long career as a doctor and elected official that may have caused needless pain and suffering to those under his care.

I have encountered enough arrogant, uncaring doctors in my life to be rather pessimistic about this 'man;....he quite likely has left a long trail of pain, misery and tears in his wake.

I haven't spotted any updates to this story yet, and no indication that he has apologized in any way (not that an apology would absolve him of this at all).

"He has now quit as deputy mayor but yesterday stood by his outburst."

The Nazi's favored poison gas for killing the disabled and retarded

The program used lethal injection, and the program was ended in 1942 on Hitler's order. It's odd that we find that disgusting and have such a healthy program of abortion at the same time.
