I thought he did die fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan. This story smells funny.

Attributing quotes of this nature to a dead person, especially considering the source of these "quotes" is at the least suspect and at the most a sleazy attempt to capitalize on a soldiers death by politicizing it.
This is something the left does frequently and without shame. Remember the Paul Wellstone funeral

It could be that the left arranged to have Tillman killed for antiwar propaganda benefit and they are creating a false perception about him to throw off any investigation.

Who cares what Pat Tillman's politics were? The fact of the matter is that this fine young man heard the call of duty and answered it. Period.

According to the
Pat Tillman Foundation, he was in Iraq:
Pat and Kevin joined the U.S. Army in July of 2002, committing to a three-year term. They were assigned to the second battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment in Fort Lewis, Washington. They served tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2004.

Hope Cindy doesn't get wind of this article and state including Tillman in her outbursts.

Please tell me your post was an attempt to be humorous. If it was, it failed miserably. If it wasn't, you win the Monday Tinfoil Hat award AND the Comment without Knowledge award, which is the first time both awards have been given out to one person on the basis of one post.

You wrote, "It could be that the left arranged to have Tillman killed for antiwar propaganda benefit and they are creating a false perception about him to throw off any investigation."
I detest the article, particularly where words are put in the mouth of a dead hero by questionable sources, but arguing that a sinister left-wing operative--part of a larger, superbly organized conspiracy--arranged to put himself in a combat zone in Afghanistan in order to bump off a nominally known sports figure in a contrived friendly fire incident beggars the imagination.
If you're not joking, I make custom tinfoil hats for 'special' customers at a very special price. Interested?
To: Perlstein
I understood that Kevin Tillman's enlistment ended in July. His comments and/or actions would be VERY interesting to learn.
