The Schindlers ARE the foundation, and as such can pay themselves salaries out of the proceeds of the Foundation. Their whole family are listed as the officers of the Foundation. Thus, by putting the book sale money into the Foundation, they will be able to tap these monies at will to pay themselves and profit off of the book.
So, all of you guys who think this isn't just another scam to make money, aren't based in reality. This is just a clever way for the Schindlers to do a book, look like they aren't profiting from it to maintain their "wholesome image", while snookering their Terri supporters base into thinking otherwise. You're being had.

I do. And what they are trying to do is found an organization to fight this same situation which occurs daily around the country. Maybe you are independently wealthy and could work for free, but they aren't.
Her brother Micheal is a school teacher -- and we know how much benfits teachers get. This is a financial and benefits loss for him.
Before you go around dragging someone's name through the mud, maybe you should find out some facts.

It won't be close to the several million dollars Michael has already made off Terri's back.
It's ridiculous to say Terri's supporters are being had. They've been told where the profits are going before they purchase the book. And the 20 or 30 dollars of the price of the book is hardly being "had."
Frankly, I wish they would keep all the proceeds for themselves and stick them in their own bank accounts after all they've been through. It won't even come close to what they should be able (but won't be able) to recover in a civil suit. I'd be certain to be one of the first to stand in line to buy the book in that event.

In any case setting up such a foundation with the author (or co-authors) on the board is common practise. It's the best way of getting the charity to the appropriate organizations. The Schindler's understand the specific situation they describe in the book, and also the more general situation of loving long-term care versus the death-mongers.
And running such a charity to distribute funds to appropriate places in appropriate amounts and times takes a whole lot of work.
For example we, the US, can't just THROW money at Louisiana and New Orleans -- because given unwisely, it goes to bad effect.
