WASHINGTON, September 29, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - John Roberts was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court this afternoon after being approved in a 78-22 Senate vote this morning. All 55 Senate Republicans voted for Roberts and were joined by 22 Democrats and Jim Jeffords (I-Vermont). 22 Democrats voted "No," following the lead of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada).

Addressing the gathered guests for the swearing in ceremony, President George W. Bush stressed the importance of the event saying, "The nomination power is one of the most serious responsibilities of a President. When a President chooses a Supreme Court justice he is placing in human hands the full authority and majesty of the law." Bush described Roberts as a man of "integrity, deep humility, and uncommon talent" and praised him for "his reverence for the Constitution and laws of our country; his impartiality and devotion to justice; his modesty and great personal decency."

After taking his oath on the Bible, Roberts thanked the President and others who assisted him during the confirmation process. Concluding his remarks he thanked his supporters for their prayers and asked for their continued prayer support. "Over the past ten weeks, many people who I did not know came up to me and offered encouragement and support. Many of them told me that I and my family was in their prayers and in their hopes. I want to thank all of those people. I will need in the months and years ahead that encouragement and those prayers.," he said.

Speaking of Prayers right after being sworn in must have driven the left nuts. I like it!

"This statement by Chief Justice Roberts will send the left into convulsions."

Little bit of Haldol should fix that right up.

I pray that he has the wisdom to overturning the ruling that allows the slaughter of unborn children.

I'm with you on that. I hope he proves all his detractors on right wrong and on the left, right!

Within a year, I fully expect to be able to say that Hillary and Barbara Box of Rocks Boxer were totally right.

I bet we got our teflon Bork.

Great thread, thanks. Our Aussie allies are probably our closest these days. We have so much in common. God bless you and yours.

"Now lets get him another receiver to throw to."

Many of us cast our votes for this singular purpose.

This statement by Chief Justice Roberts will send the left into convulsions.

Not that that's a BAD thing...
A short trip, BTW.

I was looking forward to seeing his young son Jack break out some of his funky fresh moves, but alas, 'twas not to be.

The democrats really plan on everyone having a short memory. What do they think a true conservative is going to do after witnessing what happened to Robert Bork, and then almost Clarence Thomas. Of course they are going to be a little more selective and cautious on their comments.

Poor Bork, he never saw the bus coming and by the time he realized it, it was too late.

The left should react to Chief Justice Roberts being thankful for prayers as loudly as they screamed when Clinton strutted around with that big ol' Bible.

As in silence.

Of course they knew full well it meant nothing to him.

The Left lives in the moment. They have no sense of history.

I still contend that Bill Clinton wasn't a true liar, merely someone unbound by any promise ever made because, he lives in the moment.

Sounds like a good idea for a tv show... The Jack Roberts Dance Party.

Good thing he did not say this before the vote! Oh, we'll be seeing him say (write) a whole lot of things he didn't say before the vote. (/laughing maniacally)

I can't even imagine how relieved he must feel tonight.

He has been living his life so he could get on the Supreme Court for a very long time and has wisely kept his mouth shout and pen still. Now he will be free as a bird to write all the books we wants and say whatever is on his mind.

Judge Roberts is painfully aware of the injustices the Warren court imposed on the nation.

Did you hear Jack during the swearing in ceremony?
He yelled something, I think it was "UH OH"

The liberals are in for 35 years of pure Hell if Bush can get another conservative rammed through.

I'd say they are in for 35 years of enjoying life in a better America...in spite of their best efforts. ;)

And I will continue to pray that he will not forget that the
US Constitution was contemplated as an instrument for the
Courts as well as for the legislature. That it is not intended to be a thing of wax in the hands of a despotic branch- and that when our government(the Courts included)
act contrary to the clear language used and intent of the men who wrote and ratified the document( as opposed to "the way the courts have interpreted the constituion for years."
(sic. the domestic lynching of a certain Chief Justice of
the Alabama State supreme Court) IF he shows an attention to
the US Constitution (and not foreign precedents I will support him.If he becomes a terror to good works and begins
to call good evil and evil good-it will be my right and my duty to resist and oppose him as the minister of Satan-some of his peers on that once honorable Court present themselves to be.

What an eloquent man. A man of honor, character and integrity. Also one heckuva sense of humor. God bless him. He will be there long after those who opposed him.
