Leveling the Freedom Center - The NY Times Weighs In On The Demise Of The IFC
The New York Times (aka The New York Slimes) ^ | 9/30/05

To almost no one's surprise, Gov. George Pataki banished the proposed International Freedom Center from ground zero on Wednesday, a day before he announced plans to build a half-million square feet of retail space at the World Trade Center site. Any orderly, open process for creating a vibrant, meditative space there has been discarded. Mr. Pataki killed the Freedom Center a few hours before a public forum on its fate was scheduled to be held. He killed it before the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation had a chance to vote on it.

Since late June, it has been clear that Mr. Pataki would no longer support the Freedom Center, except on terms that would render it meaningless.

Well, The NY Times weighs in on the demise of its pet anti-American project. I'm not surprised though.

I'm glad - very glad - that New York's politicians (yes, even Hillary Clinton) finally got enough spine to kill off this travesty.

Opinions on the article anyone?

...at least to Lefty, bitter, whiney Democratic shills like those of us at the NYT.

yes, even Hillary Clinton

Hitlery's first idea, was to build an educational facility to teach tolerance on the site of ground zero. As if 9/11 was somehow our fault.

Perhaps we need to be more tolerant of those who commit mass murder...

This one bites the dusk and the Flight 93 memorial was forced to be revised from the red crescent of whatever. Maybe enough people are starting to get a backbone and tell the PC crowd to take a hike.

We believe that this country can be made stronger only by free speech.

Hey NYT...notice Schumer credit file Gate yet? Air America scandal? Etc.,etc., etc.

I believe the Freedom Center was an intrusion on a site where it was not necessary. If people think a "Freedom Center" type museum is a good idea, build it, but build it somewhere else.

the protest against the Freedom Center - or, more truthfully, against any cultural presence at the World Trade Center site - was based on false information and a profound fear of free speech.

No it wasn't. It was based on the fact that we are not going to have those who, within hours of 9/11 were saying it was our fault, put up a memorial to that kind of thinking. Oh, and those of us who didn't want a "hate America" memorial at ground zero are just not "cultural" enough, unlike Noam Chomsky who would surely have been one of the first guest lecturers, followed by Cornell West, et al. ad nauseum.

The fact that it took a court action and this long to nix this crap is disheartening.
A well won victory none the less.

There is no rational connection between the word "Freedom" and a bunch of left-wing intellectuals bankrolled by George Soros having a center for anti-American hate-fests at Ground Zero.

Sorry, Pinch, I guess you'll have to continue holding these America-bashing meetings in the offices of the New York Slimes.
