One person was killed in an explosion about 100 yards from a packed football stadium at the University of Oklahoma last night in what officials are ruling a suicide.

The noisy explosion was heard inside Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where 84,000 were watching the Oklahoma Sooners play Kansas State.

A police bomb squad reportedly detonated other explosives found at the site of the blast.

No spectators were allowed out of the stadium immediately following the blast, which occurred about 8 p.m. near halftime at the football game.

By 8:30, police were allowing fans to leave the area.

An explosion with a fatality at a packed stadium? And I can find almost nothing on this story.

SEEMS TO BE KIND OF IMPORTANT. MAYBE IT'S JUST ME????

The media did not report it.

But FR did. Check the post directly underneath yours.

I read some of it, but it's about 1000 posts long.

Why is the rest of the planet ignoring this? I figure another thread on FR isn't going to hurt.

Well it was a football game and 84,000 people, probably not known exactly what is what. Would be no need to create a panic.

We have Fox on now, and they haven't said anything yet.

I wasn't addressing the fact that you started a thread.

I know better than to do that.

Of course you don't want a panic, agreed. But come on, it's been almost 12 hours, and we have no info?

The other thread is full of Freepers asking questions. Frankly, I don't want to read through 1000 posts of everybody wondering what happened.

No statements from the cops? No witnesses? No name of the fatality? Nothing?

It woudln't be the first time that FR had much more info, much earlier, than the traditional media. One of the things that made me a really dedicated FReeper was the reporting on the Cincinnati riots in early 2001, where that was commonplace.

Well seems to me it is far better to say nothing, if one knows nothing, and thus far saying "suicide bombing" says plenty. Today is after all Sunday and the biggest day for football, that is the "panic" I speak to.

Among all the questions, there are some first- and second-hand reports in that thread. Check out PhiKapMom's posts for a lot more info than the MSM is providing.

Oh, okay. :)

I figured a fresh thread, where people can chime in with any relevant info, is much less time consuming to read instead of 1000 posts with people going "what? where? prayers for the families..."

Not to minimize prayers, but for those of us with a schedule, (I have to get to church soon), a thread like that just isn't practical. Now we're up to what, 10 posts with no info? lol

" But come on, it's been almost 12 hours, and we have no info? "

- Right. How do you keep 84,000 people to keep their mouths shut for over 12 hours? My opinion is that the initial story was deliberately wrong, hysterically wrong or misreported wrong.

Search for posts by phikapmom. This was a suicide bomb, apparently, with at least 3 people involded according to witnesses, and at least 5 dead or injured (?). -I think-

And from what she described, it was a pretty hefty expolosion. Not some cheesy pipe bomb.

least 3 people involded

That could be incorrect. Last evening, I was listening to the news, and it mentioned 3 suicide bombers. However, it was only late in their report that they mentioned the bombings were in Bali.

The OKC suicide bombing has gotten little coverage, even on the Oklahoma TV and news websites.

The OKC bomber apparently was a lone individual. (So was shoebomber Reid, until further investigation revealed he was steeped in Al-Qaeda related terror cell.)

I haven't finished scanning the morning news to see whether the OKC bomber has been identified.
