WASHINGTON — President Bush will hold a press conference on Tuesday in the Rose Garden at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

The issue that most likely will dominate the event is Bush's Monday pick of White House counsel Harriet Miers (search) for Supreme Court justice. If confirmed, Miers would take the place of retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (search).

Bush One didn't know Souter. Bush Two knows Miers quite well.

It is for liberals. It's how those pity racists keep their voting blocs on the plantation.

I think that Reid only mentioned Miers because (a) he was fairly certain she wouldn't be picked (b) he wanted to be nice to the lady who was helping Roberts and (c) he had to put some names down.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only major ideological credential this woman has is that she is staunchly pro-life. This is the one evident thing from her career.

There are lots of conservatives out there more qualified than Harriet.

"Qualified" is a broad and vague term. According to whom? The President's knowledge of this woman's abilities and temperament is good enough for me.

Misunderestimated? I think maybe so. More like a bunch of Chicken Littles.

God forbid you say you trust Bush and his nominee or you're immediately stoned to death for being a Bushbot.

Excellent question.

I sent up Roberts, the best nominee on the planet and still half the damn democrat obstructionists voted against him! So I figured I'd send up my good friend Harriet. You got any problem with that? Good! Next question!

Bravo! The look on his face during his opening statement said plenty too.

"He has the GALL to say that she is the MOST qualified. Sheesh, what a maroon."

Not to mention all of his blathering about how much he respects "character" - oh yeah, GWB? Then why cozy up to Clinton and Kennedy?

Ugh. This is Bush at his absolute worst. Is there anyone out there who didn't feel good about this nomination that now feels assured and better about it? Not me, that's for sure. "Trust me" doesn't cut it.

Same was said about Souter, circa 1990, I think.

I hear you, but Souter wasn't GHWB's personal attorney for 10 years.

So you don't like Krystol and his opinion. How do you look at the opinions of Limbaugh, Medved and Reagan? I'll even throw in Savage who you can slice and dice. Do their opinions hold any weight with you whatsoever?

They are radio talks show hosts not omnipotent beings.

I have actually looked at the evidence and didn't have a hissy fit because my favorite rock star judge didn't get nominated.

Could this be part of re-energizing the base...causing them to put forth candidates that are actually to the "right" of Bush and will "get the job done"??

Personally, I would rather see those we've already elected do the jobs we've elected them to do. I don't want to "wait 'till next year" any more. And this goes for much more than the Supreme Court.

More than anything, he, and we, want a conservative, a constructionist.

Miers doesn't have an Ivy League ego...she's going to appreciate the opportunity. She knows EXACTLY what Bush wants in a SCJ and has promised it to him.

I am a HARDCORE conservative. Bush was not "brilliant" on this pick. He used good, old-fashioned common sense and got the Dims to go along.

On second thought...maybe it brilliant!
