Say a hurricane is about to destroy the city you live in. Two questions:

1)What would you do?

2)What would you do if you were black?

Sadly, the two questions don't have the same answer.

The largest percentage of black people that I saw on TV still in New Orleans during the week after the hurricane were old folks and people with children.

While I don't agree entirely what was said, I'd have to agree that New Orleans blacks have not progressed, in fact digressed, over the last 40 years. People have become more violent, selfish, irresponsible, and indifferent. Furthermore, kids and old folks have relatives, every kid and grandparent I know left with family.

Reverend Peterson always tells it like it is. He's going to have the likes of Jackson, Farrakhan, Sharpton, McKinney, Waters, etc, howling for his head on a platter.

It doesn't matter, because Rev. Peterson doesn't answer to them.

1)What would you do?

I'd wonder how in the hell a hurricane made it all the way to Michigan.

Let me answer the first question. It would never get that far. After the first time I would have to board up my house, I would leave that area so fast my head would be spinning after that.

I would never live in a city!

I know what you mean! I moved to the country 3 years ago, and I love it. I do like to go shopping in the city, once and a while, but after spending one day in the city, it makes me very happy to come back to the peacefulness of the country! I like being able to step out my back door and go shooting. :o)

Let me answer the first question. It would never get that far. After the first time I would have to board up my house, I would leave that area so fast my head would be spinning after that.
Generally speaking, the Federal Flood Insurance program had done more to foster building in dangerous areas than anything else. 30 or so years ago, not many folks built on the beach or barrier islands. If they did, they had the money themselves to risk. With the flood insurance program, then later FEMA stepping in with all kinds of money, they have nothing to loose and just keep building there.
Having said that, generally (unless you live on the beach or a barrier island) hurricanes are more of a nuisance than a danger - for most. I live roughly 15 miles or so from the coast and am about 60 ft above sea level. Until this storm, we have seen only around 80 or so mile an hour winds at my house. I've never even lost a shingle, although I always prepare. (board up, bring everything inside, etc). Usually, after a couple of days of cleaning up fallen trees and trash that was blown around, we are "good to go". Sometimes it takes a week to get power back.

This storm was very unusual. People who had no reason to think they were at risk, lost everything. We have a guy at the office who lived 3 miles from the coast @ 20 feet above sea level - not even a flood zone - who had 12 feet of water in his house. He lost it all, when the water receded quickly it tore his back wall out and washed his stuff into the gulf. We had 120 or so MPH winds at my house. There were 100 mph winds in Hattiesburg MS - 60 miles inland. They had never had even hurricane force winds.
I suppose it is more what one is use to. I couldn't handle a blizzard, or an earthquake.
You just have to stay away from the coast with permanent structures.

Cordially,
GE

LOL! Just where did you hear these "factual tales"? And by the way, are there any other checks that many people get the first of the month? How about paychecks? Do you live paycheck-to-paycheck to pay your rent or buy groceries for your family, or do you just put purchases on plastic when you need something, like maybe even a bus ticket out of town?

About five years ago, in a debate before the National Association of Black Journalists, I stated that if whites were to just leave the United States and let blacks run the country, they would turn America into a ghetto within 10 years. The audience, shall we say, disagreed with me strongly. Now I have to disagree with me. I gave blacks too much credit. It took a mere three days for blacks to turn the Superdome and the convention center into ghettos, rampant with theft, rape and murder.

The Reverend can certainly turn a phrase.

Thanks for the reminder about this fine young man. I hope his actions are recognized when all the stories of Katrina are told.

No, the folks you name have long ago chosen to ignore Peterson. They know that his style of insulting diatribe will never dent their armor. Remember, JLP was not born the day Hannity or WND discovered him. He has been around and already screwed the pooch in his quest to become the "real Jesse" in the Black community.

Exactly. It is what you are used to. Earthquakes don't bother my much, but hurricanes do.

However, to dance around the problem, (ie government dependence) will never solve any problem.

================================================

We do agree. My only point is that JLP is not the best guy to deliver this message effectively. He has a reputation in the Black community that long pre-dates his association with WND or Hannity. There is a reason why he is left talking to a White audience. And, his insulting rants, delivered on Hannity and via WND will only cement the Black community's opinion of him.

Now if Colin Powell were to join Cosby...something might happen.

Look here doc, I saw an interview...I think it was the day before the storm, where a group of people were being interviewed, they stated that they were fearful of missing out on the checks. Im not making a judgment...other than it was a silly choice that cost many lives.
