Thanks Gretchen.. It was an interesting evening/morning! As you see I did have to do a few changes & some minor HTML work but NOWAY was I gonna frame up all those neat Pix!

Friend got 11 appt changed til 2 & so NOW I have to run. I am driver as he is getting some type of meds w/outpatinet surgery & can't drive.

My youngest son and his family and I just completed a move from Montgomery Minnestoa to Wasilla Alaska. We started packing up in April, when he began the process of being hired by Schlumberger, the big oilfield well-services company, for a job on the North Slope (Prudhoe Bay). Moving two households is just about what you would imagine it to be...extremely tiring and hectic. AND EXPENSIVE!!! We had the world's longest-running garage sale in my garage, and had it open every weekend for three months. What wasn't sold at the end was loaded up and donated or thrown away. Neither house has been closed on yet, although theirs appears to be sold. Mine is still being shown, so please pray that it sells soon.

Getting a place to live at our destination was almost as trying as getting out of our Minnesota houses, but at last, it was accomplished. I think there's a picture of the house on my profile page, if anyone is interested. The movers told us "Six to eight weeks!" on the arrival of our shipment, so we resigned ourselves to echoing rooms sparsely furnished with camping furniture and air mattresses, and living out of suitcases. But lo, and behold! The movers called with the happy news that the frieght had arrived in only 13 days! Good thing...we were renting cars!

Now we are all settled in, and although my house hasn't sold and I don't have the money to find my own place, we are getting ready for winter and doing fine. I plan to make one more move, to whatever place I'll get when I leave here. They will have to carry me out feet first, cause I don't plan to move again. (You all know that telling any 'moving' story on here is going to mean leaving out all the gory details. Suffice it to say that the move was a nightmare of indecision and time-wasting by people who could have helped out. This little narrative obviously only gives the apparent highlights.) But all is well, and I am home again at last, this time, to stay.

There's a postscript to the story--the new owners of our previous home actually tried to charge us for cleaning (which we couldn't do because they interloped). We countered with "rent" for the time they, essentially, squatted. They dropped the matter. They're a piece of work.

Yes, we are enjoying our new home. Everything is pretty much unpacked now and in its, more or less, proper place. We are awaiting some new furniture for the family room, and have treated ourselves (I think we deserved it--moment of immodesty) to a plasma TV.

The pleasure is mine.

One thing I think would have made the moving experience just a tad nicer--other than the folks buying our old house being more, how shall we say, polite?--would have been to have seasonable weather. The spring had been so nice, but it picked that time to remind us the weather in northern Virginia can just get beastly in the summer.
