[With ME accent] "No, I told you, they are in New York City already. They will put 19 bombs throughout the subway system! You will lose 1,000 people! It's true! It's true! I give you their names if you get these panties off my head now!"

I remember clearly an Army spokesman in Iraq saying that these people in custody were the worst kind of liars and thugs. He was right. Mayor Bloomberg was ...shall we say...covering his... bases. I'm not saying there are no threats but actionable intelligence from lying thugs is just that.

Publicly execute the "informant" and announce that all future hoaxers will be treated equally. Oh, that's right: we're too civilized for that sort of response. OK, then - wrap him in bacon and feed him to wild boars. Oh, sorry - bad habit. Obviously the man needs therapy, or a book deal from a major publishing house.

We all put too much faith in lie detector tests (especially the US Gov't). So we should believe this informant now that he says it is a hoax?

Doesn't the individual who is being tested need to feel a twinge of guilt for a lie detector test to work? If someones religion commands them to lie to the infidel, that twinge of guilt shouldn't be expected to accompany the lie.

How can an act of terrorism be called a hoax?. The fact that people were mobilized, procedures were followed, preparations made, and awareness confirmed....THIS ALONE IS part of terrorism. Perhaps the guy in Iraq should chose between fake bullets and real ones, duds and loaded ones when he's force to put a gun to his temple....but alas, we mustn' treat sub-humans unkindly. Anyone wanna bet cretins like him will start to be interrogated by others....not bounded by CNN,McCain, and others.....
I sure am glad I got my Club Gitmo gear before they become extinct....*grins*

Ever been in NYC on a Sunday?....No?....Didn't think so.

Compared to a normal workday, the place is a ghost town on the weekends. There is no reason to bomb the city when there is noone here.

But by all means let's continue to check random bags at the highest visibility entrances to the subways. The fact is that even the most remote entrances in the outer buroughs, that don't have the checks, can get anyone to Grand Central, Times Square or any of the other major locations.

I am all for prudent and effective measures, but idiocy helps noone, wastes time and money that could be better spent elsewhere and scares most of the public while the rest just see the boy who continues to cry wolf.

But hey, at least they are doing something, right?

So...where are the libs on this one?

If NYC does nothing. . . and something happens. . . it's the GOP (and of course Bush's) fault.

If NYC goes on major alert. . . and it turns out to be a hoax. . . it's the GOP's (and of course, Bush's) fault.

If NYC goes for a "limited" response. . . and something happens that overwhelms the response. . . it's the GOP's (and of course, Bush's) fault.

If NYC goes for a "limited" response. . . and nothing happens. . . it's the GOP's (and of course, Bush's) fault.

Why oh why won't the GOP (and of course, Bush) fight back?

It's one thing to fight back and loose...it's entirely something else again to lay down in front of the steamroller and die saying nothing.

When will we hit back - hard?

"So the next time we hear a warning, we'll just ignore it, okay, Mohammed?"

Yep that's what we're doing in regards to border control/security. Ignoring it. Put yourself in Mohammed's shoes. He's got to be thinking, just how stupid are these people? We can just "river dance" across their border whenever we feel like it and they could care less. That's why they're coming here. Why risk death crossing the Syria/Iraq border when they can walk into this country whenever they feel it's time to launch the next attack. So yes I'd have to tell Mohammed that we are ignoring the lessons of 911, Spain and London.

Lie detector tests ignore the fact that people react differently to stress.

I heard Dan Senor (the former Administration spokesman for the CPA in Iraq) on John Gibson last Friday saying that it was believed that terrorists captured in Iraq are instructed to provide "information" to the Americans about bogus attack plans as a sort of psychological tactic. If they can't actually execute an attack, freaking us out is the next best thing.

I don't think it makes the officials in New York look stupid. Ignoring the threat and then bombs going off would not only make them look stupid but be criminal instead.

It seems to me, that when dealing with random acts of violence, then all one can do, is make guesses.

"Informant in Iraq admits information about a terror plot against New York subway was a hoax...."

Thank him for his belated honesty then slit his throat and hang him on a phone pole for all his little friends to see.

Okay, does he "admit" or does he "claim" it's a hoax? Could it be that because we thwarted the plot now he wants to make us look bad by saying it was a hoax?

I don't know if it was a hoax or not. I do know we had to take the threat seriously.
