I will be applying to the Near Eastern/Judaic Studies PhD program at Brandeis University (plus other universities as well). I was wondering if there were any Brandeis alums here on Free Republic who could give me some advice on how to go about applying and getting accepted.
Thanks.

Thank you perfect stranger...
Located in Waltham, Massachusetts, 10 miles west of Boston, Brandeis University is part of a metropolitan area that includes educational institutions, museums, theaters and other attractions of the city. Students are able to travel easily into Cambridge or Boston via either the Commuter Train or public bus, both of which stop within steps of the campus.
See your FReepmail.
LOL....just don't sign up for any classes with Anita Hill.
Thanks for the tip....
Sorry, I know you were serious but I just one of those.....where are they now and there she was. UGH

Hopefully, she will not be teaching any classes in the Near Eastern section.
Unfortunately, most of the Middle East sections are located at the big liberal colleges, so I will be a total opposite...
Oh, well... it's not like that is not happening now, even though I go to school in a conversative area of the country...the university reeks with liberalism...
There used to be some Republicans (maybe not conservatives exactly) at Brandeis. Pretty small club.
Kooky leftism has long been the rule at Brandeis (think "Peace Studies"):

Everything else is subjective and the profs tailor everything to suit their personal agenda.
So, I'm left with the subjective subjects... I hold my own pretty good, but politics affect the grade, especially when you have the audacity to actually defend Israel...
Perhaps you'll get lucky and find profs who are intellectually honest.
Good luck!
One of my profs suggested Brandeis, so I have just begun the process of looking into them. But, when you need info, Free Republic is the best place in the world to get it, so I thought I would go here first and see if anyone had attended Brandeis.

Acceptance as a fully matriculated graduate student (as opposed to someone who wants a part-time adult education program) begins with gaining acceptance to the academic department of your choice. To accomplish this you have to have demonstrable achievement in a particular area of study, e.g., biology. You need letters of reference from your past major professors, good GRE scores (You have taken the GRE's, haven't you?) You must apply before a certain deadline, usually early in the fall. You ask the academic department for an application and, if there is a university-wide app, the department will send one to you. Also you need to establish merit in a research area, or at least a significant interest therein.
Are you sure you're ready for all this?
Well, I was really looking for more information than just what you have listed on your post (thanks by the way). I have already done all that you have suggested. I am ready for this since I have been aiming for it for four years.
