Many who claim to be conservatives seem to have given up on President Bush because he hasn't given them exactly what they want, when they want it.

Actually, I'm beginning to wonder who the real "Republicans in Name Onlys" are.

My layers of tinfoil are getting so thick, I'm starting to wonder if this plot was all hatched in 2003 by the usual suspects .. in an effort to derail the 2004 election, but the drumbeat took awhile to catch hold and the timeframe got extended.

Many of them, have already declared that POTUS is not a conservative, let alone a RINO. In fact, I've read some posts here that call him a Liberal.

They wouldn't dare. They know they would be exposed. This is another one of those death from a thousand pricks. Anything and everything to hurt him. Their hatred knows no rules or boundaries.

The GOP has taken our patience and abused it, and relied on our faith and support to allow them the freedom to move left.

It's time to create some pressure on the right. We should be smart and learn what works - the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Those whose support is not a given get all the benefits.

It's time to exercise power in this proven way: Let the others fight among each other; and let us be the difference in which one will win, so that the winner will do our bidding.

I agree with this, but I disagree with:

If by exercising the choice to sit out (or at the minimum preserving the ability to make a credible threat to do so).

"Sitting out" does not do the job.  Too many pundits and analysts will claim that people sit out because the party is not liberal enough (a "bigger tent" is needed).  I believe the proper action is to consistently vote for the candidate who best represents you, even if that is a third party candidate who cannot win.  The vote for the third party candidate who better represents you demonstrates that the major party should consider the opinions of that candidate in the future.  It is also important to vote for the Republican* candidate who does represent you well.  Don't punish all Republicans for the failings of others.

This is a long term strategy.  As proof, consider that the move of the Democratic party towards socialism was most likely precipitated by voters for communist and socialist parties receiving sufficient votes to affect elections.

* I assume it to be impossible that a Democrat candidate will represent me.

Well put. I am steadfastly loyal - to the USA, not the GOP, and I am proud to be that way. If the time has come for a test of conservative strength, so be it - let it be known where we stand, and destroy the myth that we can be ignored without consequence. In 2005, voters are customers, and it's time to take our money and our votes to those who will provide some actual service. With the DemoPublican chimera it's like getting phone service from a monopoly (before the Internet) - or news from the MSM only. As politics adapts to the Internet, it may even be inevitable.

I hope that idiot Joe Wilson files a lawsuit. I'll furnish the treats for that one. He is trying to keep the MSM entertained. How has he and/or his "super secret CIA spy" wife been harmed? They have made extra money from a book deal and speaker's fees. Sounds to me like he and/or she is better off from it.

How many "super secret CIA spy wives" do you know who attend a state dinner for the President of the United States, Bill Clinton and pose for a centerfold in Vanity Fair in "disguise" while describing all his "designer worldly goods" that he and his "super secret CIA spy" wife owns. Probably one of the worse PR moves he could have made. Duh.

Hmmm.

Wilson lies about a secret trip done for the CIA, blasts it in the NYTimes and isnt charged.

WH staffers speaking innocuous truth to correct the record are charged.

Rush have been out defended the White House on this,
and pointing out the many reasons Wilson shouldn't be trusted etc etc

I'm with you on that. Third party voting is preferable to not voting and one should vote for the GOP candidates who do adhere to some respectable principles. (I also agree with the assumption that it is impossible for a Democrat to represent me as well.) I've pulled quite a few third-party levers for federal offices, though for local and state offices I tend to hard-line GOP.

I wrote something then deleted it. It would have gotten me banned and arrested on federal charges.

Why don't Valerie and hubby wilson move to a rual area and buy a farm. I bet they'd love it. All the peace and quiet associated with rural living. :-)

Anyone who thinks the POTUS is a Liberal has never met a real one. Could introduce them to a few locally that are in the mold of Boxer, Kerry and Ted Kennedy. Very vocal, clueless, vicious, know it alls. A 10 minute political discussion with anyone of them would change some minds quickly about the POTUS being liberal.
When they start talking politics with me, I end it quickly with the comment: "Do you get your talking points faxed to you daily from the DNC or from the county Democrat Chairperson"? That usually quiets them down quickly.
Local county Democrat Chairperson is a real work of art. lol

It doesn't compute (in my mind) that if Fitzgerald is this no-nonsince guy that any leaks are coming out -- which leads me to surmise wishful thinking... you know if someone in the MSM says this often enough a certain group of people are going to believe it.

Howlin, Lawrence O'Donnell is such a flaming a-hole that I find it difficult to give credence to anything spewing out of his hateful mouth. This man is truly demented (IMHO)...
