Strange crash: Pedestrian lodged in windshield, driver keeps going for three miles
St. Petersburg, Florida -- Police are investigating a bizarre hit and run crash.
Investigators say 93-year-old Ralph Parker hit a pedestrian on 34th Street and 46th Avenue South on Wednesday night. He then he drove three miles with the victim's body lodged in the windshield.
Police found the victim's leg in the street at the scene of the accident.
Parker was finally stopped at the southbound toll-booth of the Sunshine Skyway, with the body still in the windshield. The toll booth operator thought it was a prank, until he saw the blood.
Parker told officers he thought a body fell from the sky. Police say he will probably not face criminal charges, because he was unaware he was in an accident.

I checked the date on this post because this has happened before in Florida.
Florida is becoming the Padded Cell of the United States. Pinellas County, especially. Nothing a nice Cat 5 wouldn't help fix, however.

Well? Did the pedestrian make it, or not? I hate stories that leave out answers to obvious questions. He left a leg behind. It doesn't look like he'd survive, but no mention.

They need some way to weed out old drivers. At a very minimum make people over the age of say 75 take a road test every year.

didn't he have to be going pretty fast to hit the person and have the person go through the windshield. And sever a leg at the scene?

I apologize to Seniors, but all ya all need to be tested every year once you hit the age of say 69. No offense, but you are a real hazard on the road some of you. Testing ought to be mandatory a real drivers test in a car. Should go up to freeway speeds. There is nothing worse than an elderly person driving 45 on a 70 MPH freeway.

didn't he have to be going pretty fast to hit the person and have the person go through the windshield. But if the guy fell from the sky he could have reached terminal velocity (120-180mph), so the driver would see nothing unusual about the guy going through the windscreen

That's terrible. My mom was found in her car on Pico and Olympic, years ago. I begged the LAPD to yank her license, but she had rights. My worst fear was that she'd run over a crosswalk full of kids. I don't feel that this man should be charged, because the DMV is completely negligent in these types of situations.

More reason for elderly driver re-testing.If you want to harass seniors, that would be a good idea. But if you are serious about lessening traffic fatilities you might want to target those under 24.
