I have two metric tons of Diazinon in a bags in a barn.

(Forclosed on a feed store; I was the highest and only bidder.)

One day, the owner of a golf course will come beggining. I just know.

Seasonal version:

A skeleton walks into a bar and asks for a pitcher of beer and a mop...

Lol....funny joke previous post. If the EPA ever paid me a visit, they'd crap. I still have 5 lbs of Asbestos used as a filler for epoxy. A coffee can half full of Mercury and about 500 lbs of lead for making bullets. Add in the welding equipment and the metal working tools......

/black helicopter overhead ;-)

"My father spent a large part of his career evaluating death claims for Metropolitan Life Insurance. He was constantly warning us about the billions of stupid ways you could kill yourself or somebody else, because he had seen it all."

Betcha he could write a swell book...

Heh, heh, heh. Yeah, 39 was pretty funny, but I think 42 was the biggest joke of all!

Now, aside from the old, old joke YOU were referring to, can you or anyone else tell me what I was referring to? (pretty easy, really)

The term I was taught about chlordane was chlorinated hydrocarbon. There was no antidote for it because it worked on different pathways than did organophosphates such as diazinon. I treated my barn in 1983 with a mixture of diesel fuel and Red Fox Chlordane; no termites, few flies, few spiders etc.. It appears to be weakening some the last couple of years because I have seen a few spiders and insects and still no termites.

I think that is the recipe for clorine gas or mustard gas. and not something you mix twice.

Dang good point!

Chemical reactions can be a little too exciting.

I once had a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook. There are lots of explosives you can make out of commonly available materials. The diesel fuel and fertilizer bomb we are familar with from recent events is only the most obvious.

Most of these methods have a remarkably high incidence of premature detonation if the process is mishandled. Cleanliness, temperature control and other factors are difficult to maintain precisely outside a proper lab.

Luckily, the type of people who want to manufacture illicit explosives are also the kind who are unlikely to be able to precisely implement highly technical procedures. Boom!

chlorinated hydrocarbon works just as well. :-) Organic chemistry always drives me nuts because you can have different names for the same thing. Working with organic stuff is always interesting, but the lecture was horrible.

Why, that's the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, of course! :-)

Oh.... I guarantee you... you mix it like that and any bugs in the area will die...

I mixed it once when I had just gotten a swimming pool. Using the little test kit.... first day... it needed chlorine. That's easy enough. One scoop of dry powder chlorine in bucket then add water from the garden hose..... throw in pool. 2nd day... needed acid to lower ph. A few ounces of acid into the bucket.... add water from the garden hose... throw into pool. There's nothing to treating this pool. 3rd day it needed both.... one scoop of HTH dry powder chlorine into the bucket.... pour in some muriatic acid.... then RUN AWAY..... RUN AWAY.... RUN AWAY!!!! :)

Diazinon is for outdoor use ONLY. Only idiots use it indoors.

And it's a very effective poison. I have used it for several years (although it's hard to find these days here) to treat the house. I mix it at about 2x the suggested strength and soak the entire foundation each spring.

NOTHING and I mean NOTHING lives when it comes in contact with the concrete around my house. Large beatles walk up to the front porch (concrete slab) and just fall over.

It's wonderful to watch, as I really HATE insects.

But...you must be careful. As you mentioned, it does attack the CNS. As a former Army chemical officer, I was very interestingly surprised to find myself feeling the early effects of nerve agent poisoning (pupils not dilating, etc.). All in all, a very cool product.

Well that's one way to get rid of them. Leave them to their own devices! Ha!
Sorry, that was a bad joke.

Chlordane is right. Used to buy in a box in powder form. It also really worked great against ants. The ants would not cross a line of the dust placed around the footing of any building even if it was lightly watered. The bitch was that it would leach down in the soil and mix with ground water.

Understand that in some places farmers can still buy the powder. Not sure if that is true.

The name is Diazinone, which I used to spray around foundations to create a dead zone and prevent such pests as carpenter ants from entering.

Since you are a professional veterinarian and an amateur exterminator, I could use your help. We have a problem with ants around the stable (attracted to feed and moisture), and need to know the best way to treat for ants without harming the horses. We'd be grateful for your advice...

Because of concerns over cancer risk

Were those concerns ever substantiated or were they relegated to the same category as DDT............bogus science which needs to be accepted due to all the money spent to investigate it.
