Country superstar Dolly Parton was thrilled when Yusuf Islam agreed to collaborate with her on her new covers album because she wanted to show fans he's a "really sweet man."
Parton has been a longtime friend and fan of the folk icon, formerly Cat Stevens, and was horrified when she learned he had been refused entry to America last year.
Islam was turned back when his name appeared on a mysterious list of potential terrorist sympathisers. He has been fighting the humiliating immigration mess ever since. And, by including him on her new album, Those Were The Days, patriotic Parton felt she was doing him a great service because her fans would never expect her to collaborate with anyone who meant to harm Americans.
She says: "I had recorded a song on this CD, called Where The Children Play, and I thought it was worth a chance (to ask Islam to join her), so we sent an email and he said: 'Sure, I'll play the guitar.'
"He's a precious man. He's got a lot of bad press lately but I think he's out to try to save the world, not destroy it."
Oops... Title should be "Dolly defends Yusuf Islam"
"I think he's out to try to save the world, not destroy it."
So, he's not an Islamofascist, he's one of their useful idiots.
Dolly, Dolly, Dolly. You're breaking my heart here.
If only those were brains.
What a hoot!
May 22 -- The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy of the author Salman Rushdie, ''I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.''
The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ''The Satanic Verses.'' He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ''I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.''
''I'd try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is,'' said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments.
LOL
To "save the world" from an islamic point of view would be to destroy it from ours.
Yeah, "really sweet man," huh? God, I hate the dummies in Hollywood.
If he's such a sweet man, what the hell was he doing on the terrorist watch list while at the same time, frequenting mosques typically filled with Western-hating Islamofascists?
Dolly, don't make me have to shelve it.
prisoenr6
Guess maybe she doesn't want her album to sell.
"Ride on the Religion-of Peace Train...oo-ay-ooh-ay-***BOOM***"
Hollywood? Oh my...didn't you know? It's been updated.

Hey, wait... What am I laughing about? It's infuriating!
Dolly is obviously suffering from silicone brain.
They are both a couple of big boobs.
i wonder will she ask him what would happen to her once his ideas are accepted....
this is a guy who wants to kill someone bacause of a book...there is a message there for us all if we choose to HEAR it
If only those were real.
Dolly Parton was mistaken for hooker on first New York visit
I think some of the details of this story are a little bit fishy... Sort of like the story George Clooney is telling about a rattlesnake attacking his poor dog, and how George had to beat the snake off with a club so violently that the beating was the last "recollection" the dog had. Yeah, right!
In reply, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens said. "That Dolly, she's got some nice Winnabagos."
Shelve it.
Brains in her Yabow's.
She is dixie chick-ing herself.
"Dolly said on Oprah that homosexuals should be able to marry."
She should ask Yusuf what he thinks of that idea!
I'm very surprised at this from Dolly Parton.
Actually, Dolly is in Tennessee most of the time - lives near Nashville. Dolly seems like such a sweet person, but I think she is sometimes misguided in trying to be so completely tolerant of things. She is probably naive about some things and shrewd about others.
"this is a guy who wants to kill someone bacause of a book...there is a message there for us all if we choose to HEAR it"
Agreed. Uh, Dolly, pay attention please!
Dolly is nobody's fool, but I doubt she's political. She's all show biz, through and through.
I'm not. She's an odd stick and travels in a very liberal crowd. Her personal life has come under some scrutiny, actually. She's been married to the same guy forever, but he's in the shadows.
"Dolly is nobody's fool, but I doubt she's political. She's all show biz, through and through."
I saw the interview and she flat out said,"I'm not the least bit political". I think she's a fine American.
I don't think Dolly can purposefully work with a person that makes political statements and claim she is not political. She might be ignorant politically, but she is being political. Her statement suggests she is helping him get good press when she worries about his bad press.
I wonder if people in showbiz ever consider shutting their mouths on any subjects. I think the very personality traits that lead to stardom come from an overinflated view of self, therefore they think they matter in all things.
If I was being interviewed about my business, the LAST think I would do would be to inflict my personal political opinions into that interview. Wouldn't most people do the same?
I think it is time for a collective groan from the crowd. I am interested in "stars" opinions of their business or field of expertize. I don't give a rat's ass about their views on anything else.
Please don't ask me to judge her singing, not my field.
"He's a precious man. He's got a lot of bad press lately but I think he's out to try to save the world, not destroy it."
I guess you shouldn't 'assume'. I have never heard Parton describe herself as a Christian but I supposed, given her backround, that she is.
Note to Dolly: Islam (the religion)has NEVER saved anything and never will. It is about subjection NOT redemption. It doesn't even TRY to hide this.
If Yusef's religion ever gains ascendancy in YOUR neck of the woods you will be among the first to know it. You will be TOLD to stop singing all of your song catalog and TOLD to cover those boobs you're so proud of. And if you look to Yusif for help, the 'precious man' will shrug and say it is the will of allah.
"I guess you shouldn't 'assume'. I have never heard Parton describe herself as a Christian but I supposed, given her backround, that she is."
Check out her "Heartsongs" album.
I think the interviewer sucked her into it.

>>>Guess maybe she doesn't want her album to sell.
You mean the one with all the 60's and 70's protest songs released in the midst of global war on terror? These comments seem right in line with Blowin' In The Wind, Where Have All The Flowers Gone, Where Do The Children Play, The Cruel War, and Imagine.
Or is that Hooters.
Even if they were, they've been partially resected..
---------------------
I don't want to break Dolly dear's heary, but Yusuf, the peaceful muslim, was denied entry because he was expelled from Israel for not only raising and donating, but transporting funds to Hamas. He was charged in an Israeli military court in Gaza, and didn't defend himself. If you're not American, and fund terrorists, you don't get to enter the country. Too bad Dolly. You're an American, do the same thing and you go to jail.
Yes. I was listening to a sermon on the days of the English Civil War. It seems the Hollywood of that day (London's theatrical south bank) also ridiculed the conservatives (Puritans) of those days.
but yusuf islam, if he is a true muslim, doesn't believe in homosexual marriage.......dolly, dolly, which is it you want to sell albums to homosexuals or islam fans? -- 'cause I'm not buying it.
What is it with entertainers? They come up from having nothing and become rich and successful and all of a sudden they think all that success made them wise and relevant. Just because I might like their movies or songs doesn't mean I respect or want to listen to their drivel. They are out of touch with the reality of the rest of world.
She is a talented song writer and a decent singer but I think she is basically sorry.
An F...ing sweet man who's charities manage to fund Islamic terrorism around the world.
May he rot!
It's my recollection that his name didn't appear on a "mysterious" list -- his name was confused with someone else's and the whole thing was a mistake/misunderstanding.
