Niger document forger in pay of France
The American Thinker ^ | 10-25-05 | Clarice Feldman

Posted on 10/25/2005 2:04:14 PM PDT by Renfield

Russo Martino, the man behind the forged documents indicating Saddam had purchased uranium from Niger, which Joseph A. Wilson falsely claimed he had seen and warned the Administration about, has come forward and admitted that he did this in the pay of France to undermine the British and American justification for the war in Iraq:

The man, identified by an Italian news agency as Rocco Martino, was the subject of a Telegraph article earlier this month in which he was referred to by his intelligence codename, “Giacomo”.

His admission to investigating magistrates in Rome on Friday apparently confirms suggestions that – by commissioning “Giacomo” to procure and circulate documents – France was responsible for some of the information later used by Britain and the United States to promote the case for war with Iraq.

Italian diplomats have claimed that, by disseminating bogus documents stating that Iraq was trying to buy low-grade “yellowcake” uranium from Niger, France was trying to “set up” Britain and America in the hope that when the mistake was revealed it would undermine the case for war, which it wanted to prevent.

Italian judicial officials confirmed yesterday that Mr Martino had previously been sought for questioning by Rome. Investigating magistrates in the city have opened an inquiry into claims he made previously in the international press that Italy’s secret services had been behind the dissemination of false documents, to bolster the US case for war.

According to Ansa, the Italian news agency, which said privately that it had obtained its information from “judicial and other sources”, Mr Martino was questioned by an investigating magistrate, Franco Ionta, for two hours. Ansa said Mr Martino told the magistrate that Italy’s military intelligence, Sismi, had no role in the procuring or dissemination of the Niger documents.

France is a charter member of the Access of Evil.

That is, they never actually start anything (or finish, for that matter), but they'll hop on the bandwagon of any wack-job that promises to call them tomorrow and doesn't make them break a sweat, speak English or bathe.

Germans, Russians, Chinese, Jihadis...the French have never met an anti-Western egomaniac they didn't like.

The fact that they actually paid for this deception is absolute proof that France is officially Against Us.

If you will notice, the articles all say Rocco "procured" and "assembled" the documents, they never say he actually did the forgeries themselves. He has never admitted that. See this post of mine (#42) for some insight.

And don't forget that Joe Wilson's second wife is French.

------

Yes, a Cultural Affairs officer in the French Embassy. Was she in French Intelligence? Did she work with Wilson to cause a scandal to bring down this administration?

Do you know if anyone's spoken to Ashcroft about the CIA leak?

He recused himself in this case in '03, I think.

I don't remember seeing his name in all these articles about the leak.

Fitzgerald did request the report from the Italians about the Niger break in, where the letterhead and seals were stolen that were used in the forgeries. Let's just pray he has followed the path far enough. I am comforted by the fact that Cliff Kincaid and Joe diGenova have come up with the same theory as I have. Even moonbat Seymour Hersch got it right, LOL!

I don't think Fitzgerald is going in that direction, sadly.

Niger. Yellowcake. Wilson. Plame. Rove. Libby. CIA. Novak. Miller.

Big headache.

Joe Wilson et al are the targets. Liars, mendicants, seditious fools.

SOOOOO, Joe and Val were working in collusion with the Frogs to undermine the United States and provide aid and comfort to the enemy. NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE TREASON.

WHERE ARE THE CALLS FOR JOE AND VAL TO ANSWER WHETHER THEY KNEW THE FROGS WERE INVOLVED.

Yes, of course - this is all about money and who has access to whom in the middle east. The French role isn't surprising. What's interesting is how little anyone has focused on the British intelligence that said Iraq was pursuing African uranium, which the Brits still stand behind.

I believe that YES is the answer to ALL of your questions...but I can't prove it/have seen nothing to substantiate it.
