New Delhi (dpa) - Police raided hotels and guesthouses and detained several people on Sunday seeking leads about the serial blasts in New Delhi that claimed 59 lives and triggered panic among thousands ahead of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.
India's Home Ministry said 114 people had been injured in the Saturday's blasts. Two bombs exploded at busy marketplaces while another exploded outside a bus in the Indian capital.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the attacks as "dastardly acts of terrorism" that were meant to create disaffection among communities in the festive season.
Diwali is to be celebrated on November 1, followed by the Moslem festival of Eid later on in the week.
"We shall defeat their (terrorists') nefarious designs and not allow them to succeed," he said.
Major cities across the country were placed on high alert after the blasts. Delhi was on "red alert" and its borders had been sealed.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far, but local media reported that the Delhi police had secured definite clues into the attack.
Police and security agencies had combed the blast sites throughout Saturday night to determine the nature of explosives used in the attacks.
At least 12 people have been detained since Saturday evening. The IANS news agency reported that over 50 people were also being questioned by the police.
Police suspect that Pakistan-based militant groups Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed behind the blasts, the NDTV network reported.
At Sarojini Nagar, which was worst-affected by the blasts, daybreak revealed the magnitude of the tragedy. Debris and charred remains lay strewn across the market where nearly 40 people lost their lives. People frantically searched the blast sites and hospitals for their missing relatives.
Shiv Narain Pandey, who runs a cigarette shop in Sarojini Nagar said, "My relative was visiting me from my native place and was at the market when the blast took place. I have gone to at least three hospitals through the night but there is no trace of him."
Shopkeepers at Paharganj market where the first blast took place were defiant. "We will not bow down to terrorists. The market association has decided to keep the shops open and the market will function as normal," Raj Kumar Chawla, a shopkeeper said.
However, Delhi residents were clearly shaken by the attack. Not many people ventured into markets on Sunday morning. Sunday is "Dhanteras" when Hindus do the bulk of their shopping for Diwali.
The Dhanteras day is considered auspicious for buying metal utensils, jewellery and other items.
Islam is, relatively speaking, a very recent religion. It has been violent since its day one.
Someone here once said that Mohammed was the medieval equivalent of L. Ron Hubbard (founder of Scientology). I thought it was a great analogy. A crazy cult founded on various loony ideas of an individual, taking bits of other legitimate religions, and basically using it as a vehicle for making money. Islam was initially a means for Mohammed to extort money from the Jews and Christians and pagans in the surrounding cities - "accept my religion and give me money or I'll kill you." He spent much of his life as a bandit and warlord and he built a whole religion on this "profession."

They(Muslims) get angry if you tell them that they used to be Hindus. Whatever they used to be before they converted to Islam is supposed to be "napaak"(impure/unholy) and they are not supposed to even talk about their pre-Islamic past. According to them, their past is supposed to be "uncivilised, shameful and satanic". With the acceptance of Islam they have now become "civilised humanbeings". Their past is supposed to be erased from their collective memory and should leave no trace of their previous culture , belief or lifestyle whatsoever. For them, their history begins only after the birth or conquest of Islam. Events before that are given only a passing mention.
Then they're hopeless. There's just going to have to be a major war; the earth needs to be rid of Islam.
Thanks
I am hoping that the day after the next big terror attack
occurs in this country , that every single mosque and 'cultural center' in the US will cease to exist. I really hope the Gov just looks the other way for awhile....
On the other hand, "chopping off the arm for stealing" law could do wonders for the crime rate there.
I believe Muzzies are allowed to steal from infidels, so the chopping off the arm thing probably wouldn't help much.
That said, it wouldn't surprise me if the Muslims tried in some way to officially take over Detroit or have it declared a special place governed by Islamic law.
How is the left going to explain this? When 9/11 occured, the left said it was because the xxxxxxxx were poor and we are rich. and it was the cry of an oppressed people bla bla bla.
Now these xxxxxxxx attack India, a country that can not be called rich nor oppressor. What will the mad-crazed-hate-filled left say now?
Leftism is the biggest threat that we face now, because they desire, want, and actively work to bring about more terrorist attacks.
