Heated day in D.C. leads to more prewar probes. Democrats claim victory.

Democrats claimed “victory for the American people” Tuesday after the Senate Intelligence Committee agreed to continue an investigation into prewar intelligence claims made by the Republicans, the Senate minority leader said.

Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., forced the Republican-controlled Senate into an unusual closed session for more than two hours Tuesday, accusing Republicans of ignoring intelligence that President Bush used before invading Iraq.

A phase-by-phase investigation will resume, Reid announced after the secret session. It will be the second stage of a probe that Democrats have been pressing for for a year.

An appointed six-member task force — three members from each party — will review the committee’s progress and report back to their respective caucuses by Nov. 14.

"That is to say, the Rats are claiming victory by getting something that was already scheduled to occur."

Kind of like FatTed Kennedy demanding that we bring 12,000 troops home from Iraq when that had already been planned. I guess it makes them feel like they've accomplished something.

I think ole dingy Reid threatened to pull this same stunt every day if the GOP didn't agree to the ''investigation''. I don't know if he could do that but.........I think the agreement to the ''investigation'' was already scheduled so in the end I believe the Dims got nothing but a lot of camera time.........

It was all ready scheduled before the little PR stunt today. Reid and his slime ball friends in the Dinosaur media are lying.

However, I do not think the Dims realize the land mine waiting for them as they do their little victory dance.

The intelligence they all claim Bush "lied about" is the same Intelligence the Clinton admin and every current Democrat Senate leader used to justify the 1998 Iraq bombing campaign. So the source of the "cooked intelligence" turns out to be the Dems. Reid and his clowns are going to look awful stupid.

I stopped briefly at AirAmerika tonight...and they were saying that "once again, the Republicans folded, yay!"...

I have to say that I had to agree with them...Roberts and Frist should have told them that their little stunt has caused them to PUT OFF the hearings indefinitely!!

This really could become a blessing in disguise. The democrats have said more on prewar intelligence in justifying Clinton's actions than Bush has on why he's protecting America.

I'd say the Republicans should give the democrats enough

to hang themselves with. Now if only the Republicans can finish strong what the democrats have started.

Democrats claim victory.

Yet another declaration of a fake victory by the Democrats. In my count this will make it # 5387 declaration of an early victory in the last five years.

Here is my usual answer to this:

That's true. George Allen explained that on FOX and said that this has been in progress since January and phase 2 was finished in May .. BUT EVERYTIME THEY ASK THE DEMS TO MEET SO THEY COULD FINISH THE REPORT - THE DEMS ALWAYS CAME UP WITH SOME OTHER THINGS THEY HAD TO DO AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME.

Now .. the dems are yelling and claiming it was the repubs who have refused to even do the 2nd phase - which is a BIG FAT LIE - and lately - what else are the dems good at!

Why are you believing the media lies? This investigation has been going on for some time. The Democrats are lying, the media is lying. This whole stunt was to manufacture news and it has worked, and you have apparently been fooled by it.

Just to add to your list-

HR. 4655 Iraq Liberation Act of 1998

"Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 - Declares that it should be the policy of the United States to seek to remove the Saddam Hussein regime from power in Iraq and to replace it with a democratic government."

http://www.iraqwatch.org/government/US/Legislation/ILA.htm

Does anyone remember who was President in 1998???????

Oh, gosh...maybe I should have read more of the posts before I posted that I agree with the dems that the Republicans "folded"....

but, alas, when you have two granddchildren fighting for your attention...it is rather hard to hear everything that is going on....sigh.

All I really got to hear was Reid's rant right before he called for the "closed session"...

I think that there were so many out-and-out lies in his speech...that I couldn't keep count...but one that really stood out, what when he got all agitated and upset because Bush FIRED Gen. Shinseki for suggesting 500,000 troops before we went into Iraq...

THAT is about the easiest lie it slap down...but, Harry still used it!!!

I told my husband that it is kind of a shame that there is a rule that Senators can say anything with impunity on the Senate floor....or all of them could be in big trouble.

Do not you feel ashamed listening to Air America? It is an insult for any person above an IQ of 70 to listen to the absolutely delusional morons of Air America. Also you may have doubled their ratings by listening to them :)

That's exactly true. The RATS want the report to come out .. but they are unhappy because the report doesn't fault Bush - because this was the info they were depending on in order to impeach Bush. Once they had this and an indictment for Rove - they were home Free - it was WATERGATE all over again.

You're right Mike - there is no "there" there! No wonder the dems had a meltdown today.

Dems have a hissy fit and then call it a victory? These are the same kind of people who believe schools shouldn't give tests because they're too traumatizing.

It can't backfire too hard since the media is once again white washing the facts and running with the story balls to the wall. They are once again telling their lies of omission. It's the sound bite that sells ideas to a lot of people.
