Ehrlich's Counsel: Documents Point To Dem. Aide (MD4Bush)
AP ^ | Nov 1, 2005 | Kristen Wyatt

AP) Annapolis, MD The governor's counsel forwarded Tuesday documents to the heads of a special committee looking into the hiring and firing practices of the Ehrlich administration, including an e-mail that talked about a newspaper article hours before it was published.

Jervis Finney, Gov. Robert Ehrlich's staff lawyer, sent to Sen. Thomas "Mac" Middleton and Delegate Adrienne Jones, chairs of the committee, copies of an e-mail purportedly sent by Ryan O'Doherty, who had been a spokesman for the Maryland Democratic Party. The committee will meet at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.[snip....]

".....Ehrlich aides have claimed that Steffen was drawn into posting negative comments by an unidentified person known on the Internet as MD4Bush.

In the past, Finney has said Democrats know the identity of MD4Bush but are withholding the information.

The Feb. 8 e-mail, first reported by WBAL-AM in Baltimore, is purportedly from rodohertymddems.org. It reads, "There will be a big story in the Post either tomorrow or Thursday that credits Gov. Ehrlich's staff for creating and spreading the nasty and (here, the copy of the e-mail distributed by Finney's office contained an illegible word) rumor about our Mayor and his family..."[snip....]

"..Josh White, political director for the Maryland Democratic Party, said Tuesday night that O'Doherty for the Democratic Party for about a year and left in January "to get a better paying job."

White said, "The whole thing's a sham by the governor to distract from the fact that Steffen came out and pointed a finger straight at the governor. Once again, the governor cannot take credit for his actions and the so-called evidence is completely ridiculous and they know it."

When asked if he had any knowledge of who MD4Bush is, White said: "No, absolutely not." .."

The AP has the story. It should spread a bit.

"O'Doherty could not be reached for comment."

It will be very interesting to see how O'Doherty answers this charge, IF he does.

Did Josh White get a crash course from the Clinton School of Scandal Damage Control in boldfaced lying and deflecting criticism from Democrat criminality by pointing the finger at someone else, or does it come naturally to Democrat spokespersons? It's a pretty weak and transparent attempt to shift the blame, and even the card-carrying party members in the MSM will be able to see through it.

Ya know for us Freepers from the other side of the country who don't know the names of the people involved this is one of the most confusing stories on FR. And the MD Freepers yak about it like every fool should know who is who and who's on first.

How was MD4Bush outed? Who revealed his name.

Why was Steffen trusing enough of this guy to reveal who he worked for?

Why should anyone be interested other than in Maryland?

I find this rather intriguing, although I don't know much about it to comment on the topic at hand.

There was a similar incident earlier this year in Erie, Pennsylvania, as everyone in the local government tried to find who was behind a site called "Erie Politicians Exposed" which was supposedly smearing information about the local candidates.

They eventually did find out who it was.

O'Doherty and the Maryland Democratic Party are about to learn the hard way that they should NOT mess with Freepers!

MD4BUSH's name is coming from the investigation undertaken by the Governor (Republican).

This story involves FR directly and illuminates some of the dems dirty tricks.

If you're confused, then do a little reading about MD4Bush

The story has its roots in private messages here on FreeRepublic and could be big enough to affect the 2006 Maryland Governor race and the 2006 Maryland Senate race. You may not have any interest in Maryland politics, but this could give the MD Dems such a black eye that the GOP could capture a Senate seat in Maryland, of all places!

Working in cahoots with at least one Democrat Party staff member, The Washington Post engaged in a disgraceful effort to smear Governor Robert Ehrlich.

A Freeper, NCPAC, was fired from his job in Maryland based on posts and FRmail exchanges he had with a Democratic Operative posting under the name, MD4Bush.

It is significant to Freepers because one of us was damaged through dirty tricks of a political operative and further significant because the Washington Post had to know who this source was before they published the story.

There are many articles available under the keyword MD4Bush. One is at the link below.

When you play with Dogs you are going to get fleas. What is most frustrating is that NCPAC lost his job over something he apparently did not write but instead was written by MD4BUSH.

Was this a security breach on site or what?

No security breach. MD4Bush turned over FRmail exchanges he had with NCPAC to the Washington Post and the rest were public posts any viewer of the forum could see.

The worst part is how the Washington Post overlooked the more scurrilous remarks against O'Malley made by MD4Bush and how they had to know who he was and who he represented (MDDems) at the time.

That's what I want to know. There has been an incident or two in the past 4 years that made me suspect the same.

But maybe it was just a social engineering example.

Wow that is really nasty. Posts are one thing by FRMail is private.

Moreover, I am sure the things that were said were true but that has been glossed over by the WP.

How was MD4Bush outed?

MD4Bush wasn't outed. Governor Ehrlich's lawyer, Jervis Finney, suspects it may be Ryan O'Doherty, who was working for the Maryland Democratic Party in February when the NCPAC/MDBush affair first came into the news. This is based on an e-mail O'Doherty sent to Democrat supporters around the same time as MD4Bush's last FR post.

Why was Steffen trusing enough of this guy to reveal who he worked for?

Steffen, a.k.a. FReeper NCPAC, never revealed who he worked for to MD4Bush. He was working for Governor Ehrlich (R-MD) before all of this came to light. NCPAC was accused by the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun of spreading rumors about Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's infidelity on this website, when he was actually baited by MD4Bush and merely commented on rumors spread by him. NCPAC was forced to resign his job, and hasn't been heard much from since (until yesterday).

To this day, we don't know for sure how the Washington Post determined NCPAC was Joseph Steffen. But he left enough clues about his personal life on this website that it would have been relatively easy to guess.

Why should anyone be interested other than in Maryland?

Well, the MSM outed a FReeper for one. It showed that you couldn't expect to hide behind your FR screen name if you posted personal information on this site. It also became national news at the time. The Washington Post and Baltimore Sun stayed on the story for a week or so. Posts on this website and interviews with FReeper Kristinn forced them to moderate their stories as the week went on. Their original stories were extremely one-sided and unfavorable to NCPAC.

The original story also broke around the time Jeff Gannon was forced out of his White House reporting job. Some theorized the MSM was trying to strike back at the Internet at the time.

I don't think MD4BUSH-gate is going to work out very well for them.

Ah, that fact is the one piece that has been missing all along.

Thanks for the update.
