BAMBERG, Germany (AP) - A US Army chaplain was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison after pleading guilty at his court-martial to three counts of forcible sodomy against enlisted men.

Capt Gregory Arflack, 44, a Roman Catholic priest serving as a chaplain with the 279th Base Support Battalion, also admitted three counts of committing an indecent acts, two of fraternisation with enlisted service members, and one count of conduct unbecoming an officer.

Judge US Army Col R Peter Masterton ordered him dismissed from the Army and that he forfeit all benefits in addition to the prison term to be served at Ft Leavenworth, Kansas. Arflack showed no emotion as the sentence was read out.

Punishment is quicker without a Bishop involved.

I can't figure out how this punishment isn't (excuse the pun) stiffer. This guy absolutely abused his position of trust and undermined morale and one of the few outlets deployed soldiers have for an unbiased ear. The damage done was irreparable. He ought to be doing a much longer tour at Leavenworth.

forcible sodomy against enlisted men

How does that happen? He raped them? Where's the fight in these soldiers? Something's missing...

Sodomy, as defined by the UCMJ is anal sexual contact, or oral sexual contact. There is not sufficient information in this article to understand what really happened. Let alone the homosexual contact. (I am not defending this guy. Just saying.)
