In a shameful attack on freedom of religion, the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire (UWEC) has banned resident assistants (RAs) from leading Bible studies in their own dormitories.
The university claims the ban is necessary because some students might not feel RAs who lead Bible studies are "approachable.”

Misleading title. What they banned was having employees of the school lead Bible studies. Dorm Resident Managers and Assistants are employees of the school.
Anyone else living in the dorm can have as many Bible studies as they wish.

I am so mad reading this crap. Who do they think they are? We used to live in a country with freedom of religion but thanks to the ACLU that is no longer the case. Thankfully my daughter goes to a Christian college. No way I would want her in one of these hell holes. Now days colleges promote porn and homosexuality and take away Bibles. The hallowed halls of higher education.

Why would leading a bible study be the "measure" of approachability? Shouldn't they simply ban all outspoken christians from being RAs, just to be safe?
"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" -- that would be a great policy to make sure the RAs are approachable.
On the other hand, if the RA was gay, we would say that was OK because if a person can't approach a gay person, well it's that person's fault, not the gay guy. We don't want to encourage bigots.

Be careful, buddy. I was an RA and a dang good one. Something about just getting out of the Army sorta made me approachable to the Freshmen on the floor....

But if someone who lives in the dorm sees them, they may not be "approachable"...
Actually, the RA's are residents of the dorm who also get paid to advise the students.
However, the bible study was in the RA's residence behind closed doors. I seriously doubt they want to defend the position that the RA is always on the clock 24 hours a day, and therefore any speech or conduct on the part of the RA is subject to government control.
But RA's and RM's are students. And their rooms are their homes during the school year. The dorm room is the student's home away from home. They are banning Bible study in student's homes/rooms, by asserting that they are 'employees'. Wow.

You're right. They are compensated for their work. That makes them employees.
My only comment was that the headline was misleading. There is no ban on Bible study in the dorms. There is a ban on RAs leading such Bible studies in the dorm they supervise. Makes some sense, I guess. I don't really care, frankly, but the headline was inaccurate.

I've got take some time off from FR. I just cannot believe this. I mean, it's not that I doubt the veracity of the above article (what I've read of it).
It's just that the aggressive, fiendish assault on God is like a tsunami as it approaches a harbor. People who see this evil for what it is have got to stand up and take action.

It shouldn't. I don't care if RAs lead Bible Studies. I care that the headline appeared to say that no Bible Studies were allowed in the dorms. That was my post.
Whether the University can do what they did is another matter, but New Smacks got the headline wrong...my only point.

This isn't an assault on 'Christianity'. Its an assault on Bible studies led by state employees on state property.

So let someone else lead it then. However, there's still no reason anyone should be barred from doing this on his own time. I'm assuming the R.A. that prompted this was not leading the Bible study as an official representative of the University.

Yep. They're employees. They receive compensation, in the form of free rent. They have job descriptions, duties, and responsibilities assigned to them by their employer.
Frankly, as I've said, I see no reason they shouldn't lead Bible studies. My point was that the New Smacks headline was incorret. The school is not banning Bible Study in the dorm at all. It is banning some of its employees from leading Bible Studies in their dorm. Big difference.
Yeah, Let's ban Bible Studies so we can go watch the Hard Core Live Sex shows on Campus Cable TV! Makes a lot of sense to me!

But thanks. This is really a bad one. Universities are cesspools. Porn? Great. Gay everything all the time? Fine! Womyns' studies that are nothing but lesbian ranting and porn? Awesome. Communism and socialism as Gospel? Very good. Porn stars and prostitutes leading workshops? Covered by the consitution.
But Bible studies by employees, on their own time in their private quarters? VERBOTEN!

It's an assault on a perso being allowed to do things which might make them "unapproachable" if they are a public employee.
And what do the powers-that-be think makes a person unapproachable? The only thing they seem to have banned is overt acts of christianity.
If they force female RAs to wear Burkas because otherwise muslims might find them unapproachable, I'll believe this isn't an assault on christianity.
