"I don't know a single Democrat who is saying that it's time for a filibuster, that we should really consider it," said Dick Durbin of Illinois, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, after meeting with Alito Wednesday. "It's way too early." Translation:
We have to wait and see if we can dig up any dirt on Alito first.
Alito jaywalked = Dimocrat filibuster

Good news.
AP's title is a bit much. I wouldn't have called this a "fracture" since the 14 were hardly a solid unit. More a "separation" of a heterogeneous group.

Lindsay Graham is finally regrowing the set he had during the Xlinton impeachment. I'm sure McStain will wait until the very last minute to announce his position so he can attract as much attention to himself as possible.

DeWine has stopped whining. I wonder when Voinovich will start crying again.

McCain is the biggest media whore I've ever seen. He was on Imus wearing some idiotic hat. He'll do anything for the left wing press.
To: SmithL
Geez, how many times can you say "centrist" in one article?
To: KevinB
I think Lindsay Graham's RINO behavior seriously damaged his reputation. Now he likely sees a chance to rehabilitate his reputation. He was first out of the box this time, even before DeWine. He could have stalled and said he needed time to examine the candidate, but he didn't.
The signs are all positive so far.

I wonder when McCain is going to explode. Or implode. Either one would be interesting.

The centrist Democrats plan to urge their Republican colleagues at the group's meeting on Thursday to withhold judgment, since Alito's nomination is not even officially at the Senate yet. They better first take care of their dickheaded leader Reid who pulled a B.S. stunt so he didn't have to discuss Alito...
Get your own house in order first you elitist loser PRIX before ya comin bitchin' and moanin' to us!

Durbin said that the judge never refused to answer any of his questions as Miers and John Roberts had during their private interviews and that Alito told him he saw a right to privacy in the Constitution, one of the building blocks of the court's landmark Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision. Can we trust Durbin to hear and report things straight? Even better, once confirmed, Alito won't be bound by these imaginary 'assurances' will he? Much like Souter wasn't, I guess...

The anti-Miers crowd told everyone that Bush should send up a high-octane conservative to the Senate and damn the gang of 14.
The pro-Miers crowd said that an Alito would be filibustered and the gang would keep such a candidate from getting a vote.
Would anyone on the pro-Miers side be willing to 'fess up and admit that they were wrong?
To: Right Wing Assault
McStain won't explode or implode. He's a legend in his own mind and feels that if he continues to give a sop to the MSM, he's invincible. When he goes down in flames he'll trot out the Hitlery line of a "vast right wing conspiracy" and that its using the "tactics of personal destruction" to taint a Vietnam "hero". McStain should be locked in a padded room where he can't hurt anyone (or himself).

McCain is the biggest media whore I've ever seen. Agreed, but damned if Chuck Schumer doesn't give McCain a hard run for his money. Can you imagine both of them walking into a news conference at the same time with only one mike available? Chaos.
