Liberals, who dominate the teaching profession, are obviously abusing this position of authority, and they’re cowards for doing so. There’s any number of conservatives who’d be honored to debate a teacher in the classroom setting. If you’re confident about your positions, why not defend them with someone who can at least fight back. Then again, that would take courage. Brainwashing kids does not.

I read your article with great interest and it made me seethe with anger, because I have first hand experience with this, as I was a victim of this systematic abuse in the Stalinist public school system almost 20 years ago. However, unlike many students who are throughly brainwashed to the lies and don't even know what the truth is (let alone an opposing position), it ended up having the polar-opposite effect on me and made me a vocally stalwart Conservative (but academically, it made me persona non grata and I suffered greatly for embracing truth :-(... ).

Debating liberals or the fruits of their brainwashing efforts in public schools is the equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel. They are so ignorant of the facts beyond their canned soundbites and bumpersticker phrases that one factual retort totally deflates them, resulting, of course, in the usual last resort of the liberal: name calling.

I guess we can be thankful that the liberal teacher squads are so pathetically poor at their task. At least insofar as their brainwashing efforts are concerned.

One wonders how many of those so-called protesters were really out simply to skip a class.....

You are right but you forget the kids in school believe everything they are told. Everything. In my Geometry class one day I did a long proof on the board. Early in the proof I divided a quantity by zero, But the kids did not "catch" my "mistake". As the proof went on and on we ended up proving that Lines could have "negative" length, That 2= 1, and other things that were equally ridiculous. The students became uncomfortable late in the period and finally one got brave enough to protest, "But thats wrong, Isn't it?" So I told them.

As they left the class they criticised me for my un truths, while the point was for them to question authority when they think it makes sense. This was admittedly from my generation, but the question is why don't they question their teachers ideas?

I taught for ten years, but due to the application of the seniority system I did not get to teach the upper level kids, so -- no I did not have 12th graders. (I doubt my "trick" would work on 12th grade math students anyway, since this would typically be the calculus class. They should have already seen the example I cited.)

However I believe that 12th grade American studies classes are prone to accept the approach given by the instructor.

For example: Did the founding fathers develop a constitution that approved of slavery and was designed to favor the landholding gentry? Therefore, why are these people credited with doing a great thing?

For another example: The republicans are the party of big business and the democrats are the party of the people -- True of false?

My son recently went through such a class and every day the teacher developed the concept that republican activities and laws were nefarious ideas designed to hurt the middle class and lower class and profit the upper class.
