Carl Levin: Saddam Had Nukes

Iraq war critic, Sen. Carl Levin made a startling admission Monday night - confessing that he believed the Bush administration was not wrong when they claimed Saddam Hussein posed a nuclear threat.

"Look, there was plenty of evidence that Saddam had nuclear weapons," Levin told MSNBC's "Hardball." "That is not in dispute. There is plenty of evidence of that."

Unfortunately, the White House's nuclear claims are in dispute - and by none other than Sen. Levin himself.

"When they said that the aluminum tubes that Saddam Hussein was seeking could only be used to make nuclear material, that was not true," the Michigan Democrat told the Senate the same day. "There is a pattern of exaggeration, distortion, misleading statements by the administration prior to the war."

We tend to think Levin's "plenty of evidence" statement is closer to the truth - especially given the fact that Saddam had 500-tons of uranium at his disposal and centrifuge parts and blueprints stored away for a rainy day. In the meantime, it might be a good idea for Sen. Levin to get his story straight before excoriating the White House any further.

Alright, then what was the aluminum tubes going to be used for? Aluminum tubes of this type are the only type of tubes that could be used for enriching uranium. He had 500-tons of uranium stuff. So lets be smart, and tell me just what the aluminum tubes were going to be used for since much cheaper tubes could be used for almost anything except enriching uranium. Ah, hell, forget it. I have my own idea.

perhaps then america might wake up,,,, perhaps torture might well be more widely accepted.

There's going to be a big resistance to torture from the public. Torture only works when the truth is largely known - and you know the person knows it, and you understand their fears. When torture of prisoners becomes systematic, and we have no idea what any random people know, we're going to get garbage "confessions" and intelligence. The person under torture is going to tell the torturing anything HE thinks the torturer wants to hear. Considering the number of inmates released from Gitmo, and the fact that we still do not have OBL, plus all the bad publicity we're generating, maybe it isn't a good course.

if america isn't going to fight them on their terms following what is politically correct agenda, we are ensuring their victory.

Americans would rather fight on OUR terms, not theirs. We were able to stop Y2K attacks, and other attacks on our soil before... we need a top-down reform of the CIA for starters. If some hapless kid from California can wander into Afghanistan and personally meet OBL, certainly the CIA can train or recruit professionals to go deep undercover.

Saddam had nukes, so who has them now? He didn't use them. I'm sure Saddam didn't say to his defense department, "Hey, the American Army is coming, General. Why don't you take those atomic bombs be been keeping out the the town dump and burn them?" In any case I tend to believe that the are next door in Iran.

President Bush May Send Up To 5 Marines For French Assistance

President Bush has authorized the Joint Chiefs to begin drawing up a
battle plan to pull France's ass out of the fire again. Facing an
apparent overwhelming force of up to 400 pissed off teenagers Mr. Bush
doubts France's ability to hold off the little pissants. "Hell, if the
last two world wars are any indication, I would expect France to
surrender any day now", said Bush. Joint Chiefs head, Gen. Peter Pace,
warned the President that it might be necessary to send up to 5 marines
to get things under control. The general admitted that 5 marines may be
overkill but he wanted to get this thing under control within 24 hours
of arriving on scene. He stated he was having a hard time finding even
one marine to help those ungrateful bastards out for a third time but
thought that he could persuade a few women marines to do the job before
they went on pregnancy leave.

President Bush asked Gen. Pace to get our marines out of there as soon
as possible after order was restored. He also reminded Gen. Pace to make
sure the marines did not take soap, razors, or deodorant with them. The
less they stand out the better.

Levin is one of the senior members of the Senate. He serves on the Intelligence and the Armed Services Committees. And he says that there's "plenty of evidence" regarding Sadaam's nuclear capabilities/ambitions.

Soooooo....I think that I'll wander on over to DUmmieLand to see if there's a single word mentioned about Levin's comments.

Every once in a great while, Karl says something strangely conservative. Even Bolsheviks are entitled to have a bad day.
