Veterans Lash Out at Loss of Voice on Capitol Hill
Disabled Americans Veterans ^ | 10/10/2005 | papasmurf

A proposal to end the long-standing practice of veterans groups addressing a joint session of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees is an insult to all who have fought, sacrificed and died to defend the Constitution, according to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). And in a strongly worded letter to House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.), the DAV has urged him to continue the joint hearings as an invaluable tool in formulating public policy toward America’s veterans.

Chairman Buyer recently announced that veterans service organizations will no longer have the opportunity to present testimony before a joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees.

The tradition of legislative presentations by veterans service organizations dates back to at least the 1950s. And the timing of this announcement -- just before Veterans Day -- could not have been worse,” said DAV National Commander Paul W. Jackson.

It sure is hard to keep defending the republicans when they do stuff like this.

What the H*LL is the point of NOT letting the Veterans speak to the committees? It's not like a $400 million dollar bridge.....

The pols of Washington don't want to be bothered any more with the issues of REAL AMERICA. Their country club on the Hill is much more important than those that fought (and died) to protect our Constitution, our freedoms and THEIR MISERABLE BUTTS.

Take a real hard look at this America!!

Call em why? They don't care. We are just fresh meat to send to battle. These bas***ds don't give a crap about the troops. They are nothing but a bunch of loud mouths.

You can't defend them anymore. In far too many ways, they are the same as the thug socialists of the left. I stopped defending them, and plan on voting MANY OF THEM OUT OF OFFICE IN 2006.

"Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.)"

Just another arrogant, out-of-touch Pol who undoubtedly never served, wouldn't have ever done so if required and who would help his children evade a draft if necessary. Just like they all send their kids to Private Schools while the their constituents children are forced into the Public mess they've made.

Frankly, these days I have little use or respect for most Pols of any Party.

I remember when President Bush was campaigning the American Legion or VFW. He used the term "Promises made, promises kept" in speaking of Vets Benefits and Health Care. What can ya' say?

The only thing that can be said, is keep an eye on the Washington pols. They have forgotten who sent them there, and why, and what their duty to their country is. They are running out of control, worrying ONLY about their own empowerment.

"Just another arrogant, out-of-touch Pol who undoubtedly never served.."

He served active duty for Desert Storm, and he continues now, as a Reserve officer.

If you don't like his policy or position, call his office.

But don't demean the service in the military of any American.

"God and soldier, all men adore;
In time of danger, and not before.
When the danger has passed and all things righted,
God is forgotten and the soldier is slighted."

"But don't demean the service in the military of any American."

Does that apply to John F'n Kerry as well?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I believe I said 'Undoubtedly never served" and I did not demean anyone's service, including my own. Don't pop off OK? Good day.

It just keep getting better and better doesnt it?

Yes by all means call them, and certainly they are polite and sweet as sugar receptive. Thats what their flunky's are paid to be --sweet and receptive. Will it do any good? probably not. You cant trust any politician as far as you can throw them. How many times have I contacted my representative and gotten a nice sweet letter telling me how much they look forward to hearing from their constituents? Form letters, which I throw away just like they throw away mine. Once they have the job they could care less what you have to say until its time to run again. They are too busy eating with lobbyists, taking trips at taxpayers expenses raisng their own pay and seeking pork to buy their way into the next election.

Jeb Hensarling, R-TX, is part of a committee looking for funds for Katrina. One of the targets he was aiming at to get those funds was veterans benefits. Another bastid who never served. No wonder American Legend flags him for his anti vet voting.

Wasn't that after the infamous statement to Veterans/Military prior to the 2000 election, "Help is on the way!", after the scandalous way the Military was treated under the toon? Teat's on a boar hog have more use than these republicans. Blackbird.

The problem with the Klintoon handling of the VA in particular was he allowed veterans who did not have service connected disabilities access to VA Hospitals. The patient load increased like crazy, but the staffing levels did not. Mrs Burf is a disabled vet who uses the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND. Staff morale was suffering because of the workload they were being forced to handle. They lost some good help on that one. BTW a tip of the hat to the Fargo VA. A real professional bunch of folks there.

True. Their real colors are showing now, it they look just like liberals. Broken campaign promises, deliberate tax and spend, no meaningful tax relief, education reform (to Kennedy) gone, our borders and soverignty (forget it), and the huge list goes on.
