Saddam Hussein was beaten up during questioning after he made an obscene remark about Shia Muslims, a source close to the investigation has claimed.
The former dictator is being questioned by investigative judges before his trial resumes on November 28.
An Iraqi lawyer briefed by investigative judges in the Iraqi High Tribunal said Saddam had made the obscene remark when asked about attacks by Iraqi forces on the shrines of imams Hussein and Abbas in Karbala in 1991.
Two of the court's clerks stopped taking notes and attacked Saddam, pummeling him with blows.
The source claimed Saddam's American guards were amused by the incident and did not intervene.

And, the problem with this is?

Aha! No pink panties on his head. Well, someone tell McCain so he can complain about Americans torturing Saddam. Doubtless this will be big news on NPR and the BBC.

Can't they send Sadamm to Joilet or Folsom for a while, just so he can get a taste of a real beating?

Two of the court's clerks stopped taking notes and attacked Saddam, pummeling him with blows. That's one way to preserve etiquette in the courtroom.

This reminds me of the time when he was dicovered cowering in his spider hole. He started ranting and raving to one of the servicemem and the good soldier knocked him senseless with his rifle butt. Became as meek as a lamb after that. Can you point me to reference on that? I remember reading on FR that an Iraqi expatriot who joined our troops as a translater/guide was the one shown holding him by the hair right outside the spider hole in that famous picture, and in an interview he claims to have lambasted Saddam for what he did to his country. I don't recall anything about a US serviceman striking him.

We have to get to paragraph four to learn that it wasn't the evil GI's who did this.

Maybe my memory is wrong. I will try and find it. It may take a while.
