GOP Lawmakers Float Ethics Probe of Murtha
Roll Call ^ | Friday, Nov. 18 | John Bresnahan

Posted on 11/18/2005 6:23:51 PM PST by pittsburgh gop guy

Republican lawmakers say that ties between Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and his brother's lobbying firm, KSA Consulting, may warrant investigation by the House ethics committee...

According to a June 13 article in The Los Angeles Times, the fiscal 2005 defense appropriations bill included more than $20 million in funding for at least 10 companies for whom KSA lobbied. Carmen Scialabba, a longtime Murtha aide, works at KSA as well.

KSA directly lobbied Murtha's office on behalf of seven companies, and a Murtha aide told a defense contractor that it should retain KSA to represent it, according to the LA Times.

In early 2004, Murtha reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A company called Lennar Inc. had right to the land, and Laurence Pelosi, nephew to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was an executive with the firm at that time.

Murtha also inserted earmarks in defense bills that steered millions of dollars in federal research funds toward companies owned by children of fellow Pennsylvania Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D).

And that is bad in what way? Turn the spotlight on yourself and you'd better have damned lily white record. Especially when you're a congressman. If he broke the law, let the pieces fall where they may.

I am not suggesting he skate. I'm suggesting we put this on the back burner for a short while.

The timing of an investigation now may not bode well for our side. The dems are trying to convince the nation that if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you.

That is WHY Murtha is doing this now...to use that defense.

John Murtha, Jr. - Democrat - U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania. Implicated in the Abscam sting, in which FBI agents impersonating Arab businessmen offered bribes to political figures; Murtha was cited as an unindicted co-conspirator

Murtha thought he was sucking up to Arabs then for money, and now he's sucking up to them for free. Toss this cut-and-run traitor into prison where he belongs.

This explains a lot. We now know why Murtha did this and why he did it now. He knew this was coming and needed to have an issue to hold up as the reason he was being "persecuted".

And I just sat here tonight and listened to Murtha ranting and railing that our troops don't have enough armaments, supplies and weapons.

Heck, he was so impassioned I kind of believed him!

.....Ba$tard.

You should. He meant every word of it, including reinstituting the draft to provide additional troops.

Interesting. I went looking about Murtha and ABSCAM, since his name didn't ring a bell, and came across this little tidbit on what looks to be FOIA FBI files. Seems somebody didn't think much of Murtha in 1980.

And the wording sounds very familiar for another Dimwitocrat today:
======

I was very pleased to read about your "sting" investigation and to learn that you have finally uncovered Congressman John P. Murtha for what he has been doing to the people of thie Congressional District.

He has been parading up and down this 6-county area wwith a twice-wounded Vietnam war hero background, and even has teh audacity to list this in the Congressional Directory.

In your investigation, you will discover a phony:

Murtha's own Marine Corps official record indicates that he incurred two lacerations during his Vietnam service --
March 22, 1967 -- on the cheek
May 7, 1967 ----- above the left eye

ON BOTH OCCASIONS, HIS RECORD INDICATES THAT OFFICER WAS TREATED IN FIELD AND RETURNED TO DUTY. NEXT OF KIN WAS NOT NOTIFIED.

For the above, he allegedly received two purple hearts and commendations galore.

In my judgement, the above merit no such acclaim, nor od the people of this District deserve to be deceived in the manner.

You should investigate for yourself.
======
I don't write 'em folks, just copy 'em.

"... if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you."

All the more reason your disagreement with the Administration should stem from heartfelt conviction instead of from the seeking of political advantage.

The dems are trying to convince the nation that if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you.

Then what do the Republicans have to lose ? They are already accused of politically motivated paybacks, so there is no incentive to restrain from doing it. That just simply illustrates the stupidity of the Democrats crying wolf when there was not wolf ! Now that a wolf may actually show up, who will care.

It occurs to me that Murtha may have known the lid was about to blow off his crimes, so he changed sides to get media favor.

ozzymandus may be right. And who, of all people, is lending support to that theory? Howie Fineman!

I just saw a replay of Fineman on tonight's Olbermannnnnn show. In the middle of slobbering all over himself in praise of Murtha's macho marineness, Fineman dropped this little bomb:

Murtha may have seen them coming after him with this [ethics] thing, so he decided to go after THEM first -- but on his own terms, by taking this bold stand against the war. [paraphrased by me]

So this supposedly blockbuster "change of heart" on Iraq by Murtha could be just a diversion.

If so, it's working well, so far. "How DARE you smear this hero" is the attitude already adopted by Dims and the media (but that is redundant).

I thought it was rich Republicans who are getting richer on this war. Democrats don't want money for themselves. They want to give it all to the little people!

Shouldn't be a problem as there are a number of principals in this case....Pelosi...lol, once her name is involved they'll forget all about Murtha, except as just one of many who get caught up in a sweep, kinda like when CEO's had to start taking responsibility for their 10Ks. Besides, after being quoted as saying that "Our soldiers have become the enemy"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051119/ap_on_go_co/congress_iraq

the left side of the aisle will happily sacrifice him while trying to save their minority leader. Go at this the opposite of Fritz, put out lots of names right away, make 'em all household names with connections to the graft, rather than one poor sap years down the road.
