CNN MARKS CHENEY: NETWORK FLASHES 'X' OVER VP'S FACE DURING LIVE SPEECH

At 11:04:45 AM ET Monday CNN was airing Vice President Dick Cheney's speech live from the American Enterprise Institute in Washington -- when a large black 'X' repeatedly flashed over the vice president's face!

The 'X' over Cheney's face appeared each time less than a second, creating an odd subliminal effect.

As this DRUDGE REPORT screen capture reveals, while one 'X' flashed over Cheney's face CNN ran a headline at the bottom of its screen: "CHENEY: I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS WRONG TO CRITICIZE."

One top White House source expressed concern about what was aired over CNN.

"Is someone in Atlanta trying to tell us something?"

A CNN spokesman did not return repeated calls late Monday night.

Not too many years ago I was in TV production at a small station. Directing newscasts was one of my duties. It wasn't unheard of for crew members to do stuff like this in the background, stuff that wasn't intended for air. Of course, this is precisely when people make mistakes and it *does* get on the air.

Of course, this doesn't make it acceptable. I'd love to see those responsible tossed in the can for a few years -- it'd send a long overdue message to the media elite.

It was subliminal all right, but not for what you think. It was actually a commerical for Microsoft's new X-box system. Seriously, cnn needs to be unplugged.

Although your explanation is plausible, it is not probable. This X is consistent with other behaviour in the media, and given that in millions of hours of viewing no one can think of a similar event - it appears intentional.

Rational indeed, you've nailed it on the head. Yes, this is not an uncommon editing symbol, yes, there are plenty of ways to accidentally get this on the air, no it does not happen.

We're back to the Mapes story, in a way - it is up to the network to provide evidence that this is not all that unusual of an event (yeah, right) and that it was truly an accident (again, yeah right.) Proving that it was unintentional is impossible, in all reality. Even if this was some freak accident where one of the editing bay computers was pulling data down from the speech and somehow got set to get fed directly into the board and the folks running the board pulled the editing bay computer onto the air...

Sorry, not going to happen. Even giving every benefit of the doubt, the simple reality is that no one will believe them at all. The RATs will snigger about how some MSM unit pulled a fast one, and the Republicans will be ticked that they were watching Fox and now can't claim they'll stop watching CNN since they already don't.

The most sane response from CNN should be 'The person responsible has been sacked, and we apologize to the White House for the irresponsible actions by our employee.' No one would even bother to know the technician's name, and really, no one would even have to be fired (but it'd be nice if they did.)

But instead we'll see the same old typical liberal response when they get caught with their pants down... Lie. Ghads it gets old.

I compared free_at_jsl's frame breakout of the hidden text to the actual screen capture. The hidden writing is a "ghost" of the words "it is wrong to criticize"...only it's a little distorted.

If you compare them, you can see that by filling in the gaps, that's what it says...

In photoshop, I can make out the words, "video" a percentage sign (I think) and at the far right the words "or black" or "of black"

That sounds plausible, except I don't think he said "It is wrong to criticize".

I can manipulate it enough in Photoshop (since I don't know what I am doing) so it says "do not believe".
