For nearly four decades, Richardson, often mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, has maintained he was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics. This much has been posted on the Drudge Report, but this is obviously just another attempt by the right-wingers to paint the Democrats as some sort of liars.
"They love to try to villify one particular Democrat, but seldom go to the others for their side of the story," Dan Rather commented.
To correct that, we asked Bill Clinton for his comments about veracity, but he said he was too busy being horrified and demoralized by all the church burnings in his youth to have noticed Richardson.
Frustrated, we turned to Al Gore about whether he could verify Richardson's claim, but unfortunately Mr. Gore spent all of 1966 inventing "stealth bombers" and didn't notice Richardson.
When polled for corroborating testimony, the entire Green Party demurred that they had spent the 60's saving the last tattered remnants of the songbirds of America from DDT, and hadn't noticed either.
In desparation, we finally queried the one remaining bulwark of Democratic integrity. "Mrs. Clinton, can you shed any light on this unfortunate matter of Mr. Richardson?"
"I'm sorry, Senator, I don't recall that."
"Uh... Mrs. Clinton, actually...we are from the press, and are asking about Bill Richardson...?"
"I'm sorry Senator, but I have no recollection about where those records ended up."
"Ye...esss. OK."
We had thought to recommend to Hillary that the best place to check for missing documents would be in Sandy Berger's pants, but we realized that this would be the last place the Senator would look for answers.
Can anyone shed light on where the search for truth will lead?

He never was a serious contender for the top spot on the ticket but he definitely was trying to suck up for the second spot .

Sounds like he was really impressed by being drafted. So why did he have to bother telling anyone else?

Me thinks he came clean now so that it would be a non-story in '07.
After the dem convention in 2008, he will not have been drafted twice.
I suspect we will see a screeching op-ed penned by Joe Wilson that claims Bill Richardson was outed by the the Bush Administration!!
