Are these protests against the government or simply the University (or are they one in the same thing?)?

Ahmadinejad’s record is typical of the men chosen by Khamenei’s entourage to put a new face on the clerical elite’s ultra-conservative identity. But beyond the shallow façade, few doubt that the Islamic Republic under its new President will move with greater speed and determination along the path of radical policies that include more human rights abuses, continuing sponsorship of terrorism, and the drive to obtain nuclear weapons.

Lot of people wearing glasses. In the Iraq pictures, there are few. I doubt the Iraqis have better eyes or are wearing contacts.

For everyone going all dewy-eyed over these bogus "innocent student demonstrators", please remember this...

An anti-American demonstration in Tehran, November 1980.

it is history by now!

That generation is either dead or now is an opposition to the current government!

That generation is dead? 20-year-old students then would be only 45 years old now. And recalling the virulent hatred of the Iranian populace to the United States, I have a hard time believing that there is much opposition except from the usual disaffected student contingent, who seem to exist only to protest whatever or whomever is in charge at any given moment.

Iranian students in the U.S. demonstrate near the White House during Mohammad Reza Shah's official visit to the U.S. in November 1977.
