NEW ORLEANS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu said Monday she is prepared to prevent the U.S. Senate from taking Christmas and New Year's break until Washington has approved money to pay for flood protection improvements along Louisiana's coast.

"We may be getting to a point where we've just got to raise the level of attention" on Louisiana's critical flood control needs, Landrieu said Monday while touring damaged neighborhoods here with Boudewijn J. van Eenennaam, the Dutch ambassador to the United States. "We've got to get people down here to walk through these neighborhoods, to see these houses, to see the stretch of devastation along the whole Gulf Coast."

Mmmmmm, I'm sorry Senator the only diplomat we have that's
free to tour the neighborhoods is a Dutchman.

Ok, Ok, it will be good enough for a photo op.

Sounds like she's running scared. Dem politics in LA has been dealt a sharp blow, and she only won by the skin of her teeth last time.

Hahahahahahahaha....What's she going to do, punch them all in the mouth? Bulldoze all the ruined homes, there's your new levees.

Otherwise, she said she will resort to procedural motions permitted by Senate rules that would prevent the body from going into recess. It's a move rarely done, especially during the holidays when lawmakers want to return home to family.

Are there such procedural motions? I would think that sixty senators eager to go home for Christmas would be enough to squash this idea. But the Senate is so baroque and bizarre, who knows what she might do?

Any experts care to comment?

The LA State House just blocked a bill to clean up levee corruption.

I don't know. However, I'm certain that she's got a plan that will ensure that she's the least popular senator in Washington.

What happened to all of the money LA has gotten in the past for the dikes???
Also, why should I pay for a local issue?

This corupt, insane bitxx should use the time to determine WHY all the money already sent to Louisiana for the levees -- ended up in some other pork project or Democrat's pocket..

Folks, I remain convinced we should blow all the levees -- allow the water to rise to it's natural level, and then rebuild ONLY productive businesses on the "high ground"...

The state of Louisiana needs to deal with the levees (and tell the greens to get lost). It is not a federal responsibility!

I get so tired of her whining.

Lemme see. Senator Landrieu's aunt was on the School Board which said the school buses could not be used to evacuate NO residents from the onslaught of Hurricane Katrina. Landrieu is connected at the hip with many parts of the nest of corruption known as NO and LA politics.

So what is going on here? I suggest that she's trying to force the Senate to approve a pot of money for the usual suspects in LA right away. The more time that the Senate takes to consider this issue, the more likely that it will design an aid program that keeps the money out of the hands of the usual crooks and liars.

Did I miss anything?

welllllllllllllllllll, given that Holland, like New Orleans, is below sea level and, after especially bad flooding in '53 had to rebuild levees and dams that have protected the country ever since, it makes sense their Ambassador would be in LA, as they are going to have to do what Holland did.

After you tell us what happened to the 1.2 BILLION we sent you to fix the levees, more than CA received for its flood control, we will consider it, Little Miss Muffett. Until then, not another dime. By the way, you can't build levees on jello. There is precious little stable soil in that swamp, so this is throwing good money after bad.
