Crips founder gets private clemency hearing (from Scharzenegger)

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would consider granting clemency to convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, the Crips gang co-founder who became an anti-gang activist while in prison.

The governor said Friday he would meet Dec. 8 in a private hearing at his Sacramento office with Williams' lawyers, Los Angeles County prosecutors and others involved.

Schwarzenegger, vested with constitutional authority to grant mercy and commute a death sentence to life without parole, is not legally obligated to hold a public or private hearing, and decides clemency requests on a "case-by-case basis," said his spokeswoman, Margita Thompson.

Williams, 51, faces death by lethal injection on Dec. 13 for murdering four people in 1979 — a Whittier convenience store clerk and three people at a Pico Rivera motel less than two weeks later. He denies his guilt, and has also asked the California Supreme Court to reopen his case, alleging shoddy forensics wrongly connected him to three of the murders.

The headline is wrong, if one reads the text. Not meeting with Tookie; but Tookie's lawyer.

It is abundantly clear based on what I heard on Fox News that this guy is not a changed man at all regardless of the lefty claims.

I am sure that he will figure that it would be a political boost if he wimps out on the execution.

I think Arnold is doing it so people will believe that he looked at and considered everything. Unfortunately, for Tookie, but fortunately for society, the Terminator had to terminate him. When Tookie leaves for his final journey on the gurney, he won't say to the guy in the next cell, "I'll be back."

I saw an interview with Tookie. He denies everything, of course. Corrections regards him as a jailhouse con-man and self taught PR expert. If they thought different, I might suggest a second look, but this guy looks like trouble from the word "Go".

He's smart, but he's gonna burn anyway.

If he fails to execute this POS, he can kiss re-election goodbye along with what remains of his base. He might increase his % of black radical felon non-voters, however. reprehensible.

Whats the current line on clemency? If he does it will have repurcussions beyond belief. Trojan horse rhinos will be the death of us.

I think they give him his choice of lethal injection or gas chamber. Either is fine with me.

Well anyway, we can make Martha Stewart keep that ankle braclet thing on until the very last day, and it sure makes me feel safer.

Karla Fay Tucker had a much stronger claim to conversion, and her clemency appeal was denied. This scum needs to go.

I don't know enough details to know what the correct decision is in this case.

But I can assure Arnold that he should not let any hope of good pr from the MSM affect his decisions in the least bit. Every GOP office holder should remember how well G.H.W. Bush was treated in the early 1990s after finally relenting on raising taxes after all the commentators said he would, he should, it was the only decent thing to do etc.

They savaged G.H.W. Bush for raising taxes just as they will savage Arnold whether he communtes this sentence or not. Thus Arnold should do what ever the evidence leads him to do. He should expect nor hope no gain from behaving the way the Dims demand.

Schwarzenegger's office said it would decide Williams' clemency request before Dec. 13.

The sooner the better. I'm sick of reading about this criminal.

A clemency hearing never involves the convicted ... only their attorney.
