That is absolutely not true. I work at Target and received an e-mail sent out by the corporate office that specifically said employees are free to wish customers a "Merry Christmas" if they want to but are not required to.
Before you declare one a liar; perhaps it would be wise to ask yourself if this can happen.
It did; we had dinner with the couple last night; and that was one of the topic of discussion. Now, this may not be the Target policy at YOUR store; but it was the policy at the Round Rock, TX store.
Personally, it makes NO SENSE to me. I understand 'in store credit'. Trade in a blender, get a pair of pants, home decorating items, lawnmower , anything. But that was not the option the bride was given.
Whoa, careful here- we don't need our agenda furthered by corporate extortion.

Nice.
If you do work at Target, you should contact your corporate superiors and let them know that I will not patronize them this year because of disgaceful treatment of the Salvation Army. Shame on them.
Therefore, it is imperative that the middle class be destroyed ... which explains the assault on middle class values.
Heh, no kidding! Whatever happened to shopping based on the the PRODUCT, not whether the store is on/off some bull%@*t boycott list. Conservatives are rivalling Libs in the victimology department. I'm not going to be part of it.
Someone took their logo literally...awwww....
I didn't declare you a liar. I stated that there wasn't a germ of truth in what you related. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, actually, and assumed that you were relaying second-hand information-- and I was right. ...and you related it as Target policy, which it clearly isn't-- so you can judge for yourself whether or not you're being truthful.
I think you were assuming too much without educating yourself, and passed off an anecdote as company policy. You don't do anyone any favors that way. Target is a corporation, nothing more, nothing less. I think some of their policies are stupid. If you're going to add fuel to a "boycott" fire, though, at least get your facts straight.
Assuming that this incident did happen, the appropriate response of this couple would have been to ask to see the return policy (it's available right at the service desk)-- and have the idiot employee point out where his/her information was coming from. Target is staffed by human beings, and human beings make mistakes.
I would suggest, even now, that the bride call Target's customer service number and relate the account, the store location, and, if possible, the employee's name who gave her faulty information-- it needs to be corrected.
And no mention of the other religious holidays such as Hanukkah, Ramadan, etc. either.
The Target in my town chased the Fire Department, who was doing Toy's for Tot's, away.
I don't like all this boycotting going on, but I will drive the extra few miles to a place that realizes that the Starbucks crowd isn't the backbone of America.
Now THAT's cold-blooded!
One can just see from watching the tv ad's that no one is basically saying "Merry Christmas" any more not one mention of a Merry Chrisitmas from Coke, the retailers to the non existent of the Clydes dale Budweiser commercial's. We are in a new Era of the non mentioning of "Merry Christmas" not even a simple mention of it or advertisement of it in any ad find me one that says Merry Christmas.
That is funny, but there rings some truth to it.
Target has a "No Solicitation" policy - period.
