Rep. John Murtha May Face Ethics Investigation

One of the mysteries these days is the about-face of a supposed Democrat war hawk, Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania. Considered a supporter of the Iraq conflict, the decorated former Marine suddenly came out with statements calling for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and that the war is not winnable. After the liberal media feasted on his sudden burst on the national scene, Murtha became the new lightning rod for the antiwar, anti-American movement. Recently, he said that the US military was worn out and unable to protect Americans should a security crisis emerge. And the media again jumped all over the Murtha comments. John Murtha replaced Wesley Clark and John Kerry as the left's favorite veteran since they only love warriors opposed to war. Murtha is someone few Americans knew let alone cared about until he became the big thing in the media's relentless goal of undermining "Bush's war."

Meanwhile, another Democrat, Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, a respected member of the US Senate and a former vice presidential candidate, returned from a fact-finding mission in Iraq. He told of the progress he had seen and wrote a column in the Wall Street Journal about his positive view of US operations in Iraq. Other than some radio talk shows, Senator Lieberman was all but ignored by the mainstream news media, preferring to run Murtha quotes or air Murtha soundbites.

Of course they would have to find that Murtha had any ethics in the first place.

This is part of Murtha's "plan".

Knowing he's going to be investigated, he takes the Pentagon's plans to draw down troops and sprinkles defeatist language and an artificial six-month time frame into it to make it very contraversial and appealing to the looney left.

Now, when he's investigated it will be called a "witchunt".

I have never seen any pro-war statements from Murtha, yet he is usually described as having had a change of mind.

A few years ago he was making anti-war statements along with Nancy Pelosi.

Something has to be done to put a stop to the culture of corruption currently afflicting congress.

Yes he was, about 2 years ago he said the exact same thing and nobody cared. Murtha is a tool - but was not usable till Sheehan died out.

There is no mystery. It is the result of the sudden onset of clinical psychoses. I wish him well during his recovery.

This is a quote my fellow Freepers from somebody who knows this stuff. Here it is:

WASHINGTON -- When Congress passed the $417-billion Pentagon spending bill last year, Rep. John P. Murtha, the top Democrat on the House defense appropriations subcommittee, boasted about the money he secured to create jobs in his Pennsylvania district.

But the bill Murtha helped write also benefited at least 10 companies represented by a lobbying firm where his brother, Robert "Kit" Murtha, is a senior partner, according to disclosure records, interviews and an analysis of the bill by the Los Angeles Times.

Clients of the lobbying firm KSA Consulting -- whose top officials also include former congressional aide Carmen V. Scialabba, who worked for Rep. Murtha for 27 years -- received a total of $20.8 million from the bill.

One of the clients, a small Arkansas maker of military vehicles, received $1.7 million, triple its total sales for 2004. Several other clients received money that represented more than half of their annual sales from last year.

KSA directly lobbied the congressman's office on behalf of seven companies that received money from the bill. And a defense contractor based in Pennsylvania said he hired KSA on the recommendation of a top Murtha aide.

Kit Murtha said in a phone interview that he did not lobby his brother's office and that he saw no problem working for a firm that did.

Most of KSA's defense clients hired the firm in hopes of securing funding from Rep. Murtha's subcommittee, according to lobbying records and interviews. And most retained the firm after Kit Murtha became a senior partner in 2002.

Bingo. Thought it warranted being repeated.

Murtha was 'hand selected' by the dem leadership to be the guy that stepped out and called for a pull-out of the troops in Iraq. They selected him because of his military service and the dems thinking that no one would be able to come out against Murtha without looking like they were attacking a decorated veteran.

Nothing 'about face' with Murtha. He was telling slick willie to get out of Somalia after our Rangers were killed, because we weren't welcome in Somalia.

He was against the Bosnia mission, and now this despicable comment that the troops are broken and worn out.

The man is a hawk when it comes to getting military contracts for cronies and nothing more. He cares nothing for the troops or their missions.

Not finished yet, here is a little more: "Last year, Murtha strongarmed the Navy into transferring the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco, which had a contract with a company called Lennar, Inc. to “redevelop” the 500-acre site bringing millions in profits to Lennar. The Senior Vice-President of Lennar is Laurence Pelosi, Democrat House Leader Nancy Pelosi’s stepson.

This year, Murtha inserted several “earmarks” (specifically designated appropriations) into various defence bills giving millions of federal research dollars to companies owned by the children of Democrat Congressman Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania’s 11th district adjoining Murtha’s 12th."

This folks, is fact. Why isn't the Commie MSM talking about these facts. The RATS stink and the RATS in the media stink.

"Murtha is a tool.."

Yes, and he also appears to be feeling the effects of senility. A few days ago, even Chris Matthews, on a hardball show, found him to be too disconnected and verbose. He brought gadgets with him to illustrate his points, such as a brown paper bag with five single dollar bills that someone supposedly shoved into his hadns and admonished him to give to some "worthy" Murtha cause. Matthews listened to him more that he does anyone else without interruption, but it was difficult for him.

If Murtha, who I never heard of until a few weeks ago when he called for total withdrawal from Iraq, is such a fine man, an upstanding person, and a war hero as the President and Vice President said, then why is he a socialist?
