Today nobody's job is safe because they're now big on outsourcing even local services overseas. A friend of mine recently called her local Internet provider for help with setting up her email. After a few minutes they transferred her to a technician in INDIA. It's all about putting cheap labor for business before the interests of the American people. Cheap labor is a nice thing to have, but so is a job.

Do you also contemplate the issues of supply/demand of technically-competent and cost-effective workforce?

Today nobody's job is safe because they're now big on outsourcing even local services overseas. Only paint by the numbers jobs. I guarantee you that if you can come into a situation and add significant value through analysis and, nost importantly, clear communication skills, you will never lose a job.
Indians do good technical work but it is all by rote. It is not that they aren't good analysts -- they are -- but the combination of communicating clearly and colloquially and coming up with creative solutions is a summit that few can reach.
Programming is paint by numbers. So is phone support.

I bought an HP computer a few weeks ago and needed some help with a couple issues. My first call was to a nice-enough person, but with an accent I could not understand. I asked where she was--she said, "India". I was surprised (call me "naive"). She wasn't much help because we really couldn't understand eachother. Same thing happened the next time I called. The man finally told me I could call another number where I could pay by the hour for assistance. Needless to say, I was not at all impressed with HP's customer service.
I'd call an complain, but I'd only get someone in India!!!

all about putting cheap labor for business before the interests of the American people. Wow, you really adopted socialist language! Who told you that "workers" represent "American people?
What are corporations but pieces of paper owned MOSTLY by American people? If you have a savings account, you own a corporation to three; if you have retirement money anywhere, you own dozens of corporations; if you have a 401K, and IRA...
It never ceases to amaze me that here on FR, when it comes to corporations most speak, as you do, like true socialists.
