Sacramento -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger spent more than an hour with lawyers for Stanley Tookie Williams and prosecutors pushing for his death sentence Thursday, hearing final arguments before he makes a decision on Williams' bid to avoid lethal injection.
Schwarzenegger now has fewer than four days to weigh Williams' past as a convicted four-time murderer and gang leader against his present work as an anti-gang crusader. Williams, who has written eight children's books from his Death Row cell, is pleading for clemency based on his value as "a unique voice'' against street violence, one of his attorneys said.
The hearing, in which both sides made their case to Schwarzenegger and four lawyers who work for the governor, took place in private. The governor was handed a letter from Williams during the meeting.
Schwarzenegger made no public appearances Thursday, and while attorneys held press conferences in front of more than 25 television cameras and dozens of reporters, no one would divulge details of the meeting held in the Ronald Reagan Cabinet Room inside the governor's suite of Capitol offices.
Williams' case has received worldwide attention and his notoriety and scheduled execution at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday has California prison officials preparing for potential violence inside facilities. Celebrities have been drawn to Williams' cause -- he met privately with rapper Snoop Dogg Wednesday and with actor Jamie Foxx Thursday at San Quentin State Prison.
In the Capitol, a deputy district attorney from Los Angeles made the case against clemency, declaring that Williams was guilty of "extremely brutal crimes against people who were defenseless.''
"Very simply, in our opinion, there are certain murders -- not every murder -- where an individual's conduct is just so abhorrent, where the crime is so brutal, it simply justifies the ultimate punishment,''

I wish Arnold would issue this Proclamation:
"I hereby delay the execution of Tookie Williams for as long as there are no gang-related deaths in the State of California. If there are no gang-related deaths, then Tookie will die of old age in prison. However, he will be executed within 24 hours of the next gang-related death in the State."
Let's see how well Tookie's followers want him to live.
Exactly. His case for leniency would be stronger if he admitted his sins and sought redemption. To me, this is just one big con job egged on by a extremely biased media.
They are probably all owned by H'wood celebs who want to spring him, so they wanted to 'get the sales up.'
I hope nobody uses a firearm to protect themselves...... they should just "talk" to the rioters and work it out , man. like wow... California spoils the criminals and miscreants then is "shocked" when they have a temper tantrum....
good riddance. I hope they end up like Detroit.
This is debatable, but completely clear and undebatable is the fact that his murdered victims were more valuable to society alive than dead. Besides, it's been 25 years since he was sentenced to death ..... it's embarrassing ..... get on with it.
"Juice" the mutant! "Juice" him now!
Be prepared. Be armed.
He wouldn't be the first to succumb to appeasement. Having said that, I think he will deny clemency. Time will tell.
Amen to everything you said.
The savage (Toothless Tookie) has served notice to society he's not fit to live among civilized people. The savage must, therefore, DIE!
Katherine Anne Porter in an essay entitled, I believe, "The Never Ending Wrong," explains perfectly how the Left used the death-penalty issue in the Sacco and Vanzetti case. She didn't know it at the time and it was eye opening for her.
As her comrades said then, and must believe now, the accused -- the convicted sentenced to death whom they claim to be defending -- must die to further cause.

an eye for an eye still leaves ya with one good eye and that's good enough for me.
It will be interesting to see what he has traded his soul for.If it happens, the answer to your question is obvious: nothing.
Republicans who succumb to "deals" with the rats usually get taken. It's the one thing the rats excel at: suckering Republicans into stupid, unfair agreements, and then cheating on the terms of those agreements.
Who'da thunk it?
Yes that's the point I was getting at - perhaps in a muddled way. They say reprieve! but secretly they want he execution to go ahead.

Only if he has an early Christmas dinner. The Grim Reeper is scheduled to push the plunger on December 13th.
Tookie has already lived 24 years more than his victims. If justice were swift and certain, Tookie would not have had the opportunity to attempt to redeem himself in the eyes of the public. At the very most any attempt to claim redemption should be limited to the two years immediately following his conviction, the time an efficiently functioning justice system would have finally ended any questions. In the 24 plus years since he committed these murders, the memories of the victims have faded from the minds of all except those related to the victims while Tookie is alive and more vivid in the minds of the public. Swift justice would have eliminated any question of commutation.
Maybe some of the "peace" activists will kill each other off.......a fitting celebration for tookie's death. rme......
