SpeculationL What really happened to Christian KU-KU Professor of anti-Christianity Morecki?
My own fevered mind ^ | 12/10/05 | Vanity

Posted on 12/10/2005 10:28:49 AM PST by dangus

You know, I'm looking at those black eyes and very minor bruise on the arm of Professor Morecki. He's the professor who let loose a torrent of hatred against Christians as he cackled about teaching Intelligent Design as mythology. Well, he lost his job, and says he got beat up, and everyone is blaming the Christians, even though his story makes no sense. And I'm thinking about this:

Ever see the MASH episode where Frank Burns brings a court-martial against Hawkeye and Trapper John? Burns presents his case of how Hawkeye and Trapper mutineed against him. Amazingly, even though Hawkeye and Trapper are completely innocent, Burns is neither lying or schizophrenic. He's just so warped he really does believe his own story. Not to cut Professor Mirecki any slack; his own e-mails suggest he is just the sort of guy to add himself to the list of a couple dozen "victims" of non-existent campus hate crime. But he's not necessarily lying:

Mirecki says he was run off the road by people looking to attack him. He says he happened to have foolishly gotten out of his car, but if they had stalked him, they must have intended to force him out of his car, right? And if he wasn't a random victim, and was attacked at six in the morning, they must have staked him out, right?

OK, suppose there's some violent, rage-filled goon. He stakes Mirecki out all night, forces him off the road, heads over to smash his way into the car, but lucky Mirecki pops out. Now you let him have it. You gently poke him in the arm, push in his glasses and drive off. Right?

Of course not! No wonder the DailyKOS people presumed he was beaten to within inches of his life! If his version of the story were true, certainly the beating would have been bad enough that the spinners at KOS would at least be reasonable in SAYING it was to within inches of his life; certainly we would forgive a slight bit of hyerbole or miscommunication. Imagine the egg on their faces when they saw this silly picture.

Now picture this:

Talk about a bad day! A religion professor just got exposed to the entire world as the vicious hate-mongerer he is. And he got fired. He's driving to breakfast and some guy cuts him off. Perfect set up for road rage. He slams on the horn, and the guy who cut him off pulls over and gets out of his car.

Mirecki is so blind with rage, he jumps out of his car seat, and wangs his arm on the door just before slamming it shut. He barrels over in a head of steam to the other drivers, head down, sleeves up. Two guys get out of the car, and as Mirecki plows at one of them, that man shoves Mirecki's head out of the way, catching his eyeglasses with the base of his palm. Mirecki falls to the ground, realizes the very dangerous circumstance he has placed himself in, and scampers off.

Notice Mirecki never claimed they said anything to connect him to his hate rants; The media and the like just highlighted that aspect of the circumstances. But what else was happening to Mirecki? Isn't it just as possible that someone in Mirecki's circumstance could bring trouble onto himself?

When I first saw the picture on Michelle Malkin's site it never occurred to me that the black stripes were part of his supposed injury. I thought he was only showing off his arm. I thought the guy had the black football stripes as special effects to show he was tough or something.

I've never seen black eyes that looked like that. They do not look authentic. Let's see that broken tooth that Mirecki reported himself, over the phone, to the student newspaper, but no one else seems to know anything about.

Smile for the camera, Dave.

So this vain nut has his portrait taken for the public to see? Oh yeah, I'm really convinced now. Sheesh.

Yes, the first thought I had when I saw the pictures is that he's had a single blow to the nose, perhaps his upper lip just under the nose-- Notice the bruising over the eyes. These bruises are symmetrical. All you need is a forensics guy, a little testimony from a pathologist...

(I don't think it could be makeup. The cops would be all over that.)

These bruises would be consistent with bumping your upper lip on a steering wheel--it wouldn't even have to be very hard. That bruise on the arm looks older.

Where are the folks who were expressing all the outrage last week? Surely this photo proves that Mirecki was indeed jumped by two 'fundies' angry at his planned class, which was intended to mock people of a specified religious faith.

They're waiting for this story to fade. But you could always remind them when you see them...(g)

Boy, I'd love to hear from an expert on those bruises!! Bruises are given as evidence all the time. I'd love to know how my theory bears out...that this is from a single blow in the middle of the face (would account for symmetry of bruising), and that it was probably a blow right under his nose--

To do that kind of damage ( both eyes ) would require damage to the nose as well--I have some personal experience with this. Also, the eyes aren't bloodshot, or at least a portion of them.
The bruise on the arm appears real, but it might have been from anything. The two 'mysterious' perps sure were pretty kind to the guy for having an axe to grind.

As for the M-M Society, they've seen the other related threads I suspect, but I think the more egregious know that their 'cover' is blown as to their intentions on FR.

re: To do that kind of damage ( both eyes ) would require damage to the nose as well)))

Face bruising is an interesting thing. You can impact the nose or the upper lip, and get bruising not only around the eyes, but in the "smile lines" between the nose and mouth. IOW--just one bump, not a bad one at that, and you've got some drama.

Theory #82. This guy hit the brakes a little too hard, and bumped the steering wheel right under his nose. Saw an opportunity, and took it. If he was out driving at that unpleasant hour, maybe he was feeling real upset and depressed at the unpleasant attn he'd been rec'ing, and wished that there were some rednecks handy.

I'm not a doctor or a lawyer, but after seeing that picture, I think the correct foresnic term is "risible".

If he really plans on a lawsuit, he'll need more than pics. He'll need an exam and documentation that it's not makeup. It takes a day or two for bruises like these to develop.

In the interest of minumizing bandwidth I'm posting as a link.

It's obvious that the damage is confined to the sides of the bridge of his nose. His glasses can be seen in his shirt pocket so I speculate that he's had them repaired.

Would it be possible to acquire the injuries shown by bumping one's glasses (while wearing them) into, say, a steering wheel? Just a thought.

I don't know about that. After falling down 12 stairs, my bruises were seriously black and huge within a few hours. Freaked my SIL right out.

Is there info on exactly when this photo was taken? Is this a realease from his lawyer? They're also going to try to find a doc who'll sign on to the authenticity of the bruises...good luck!

I've posted this on another thread, but this just screams "he's faking it."

First of all, the characters that supposedly attacked him sound way too much like stereotypes. They're kind of like the black guys in hooded sweatshirts that hold up guys that just lost their paycheck in a poker game. In original accounts, he couldn't recall where the encounter took place. You remember that kind of stuff. Call me suspicious, but I find it difficult to believe that a couple of rednecks in a pickup are following a dispute over a two hour religion class at the local college closely enough to recognize the professor in his car, take the time to stake him out, and follow him for the chance of beating him up. The injuries are all superficial. Those injuries look like a guy that went into his kitchen or bathroom and whacked himself a few times with a bat or a poker. Two black eyes, and no visible nose injury. No teeth missing, no cracked ribs from getting kicked after they got him down. If two guys were mean enough to do this, they would have beaten the living dog crap out of him, breaking his nose and several teeth. Once they got him down, they would have kicked him several times, breaking ribs. He would have had road rash from hitting the pavement, and they would have taken his keys, and probably crashed his car for him. Finally, I think they would have stripped his clothes and left him semiconscious. I'm sorry, but guys mean enough to ambush someone are not going to pop him once or twice in the eye and then get in their car and leave.

The story fits too well with the liberal fairy tales about how conservatives act. "Crusading professor beaten by rednecks for fearlessly pursuing truth" is the headline he envisioned in the press the next day.
