It should be hard for our government to put a man to death.

No, after due process, the government has the duty to carry out the sentence decided by a jury. It should be done quickly. 25 years is way beyond due process.

It should be a sad day that we had to put a man to death, not a time to celebrate.

Agreed. But far more sad for the four victims Tookie blew shotgun holes in.

If Arnold caves in to mob rule, he should at least have the decency to resign and appoint a Crips leader to take his place. If there is no more rule of law, at least be honest and admit you've surrendered to the swarm.

The tooker ain't a man.
That subhuman gave up manhood when he pulled the trigger and laughed about the sounds his victim made while dying.

He deserves to FRY in an electric chair imho.

Agreed. As a Catholic I do not support thre death penalty. The position of the Holy CHurch is clear on this. Even for an animal such as this. Put him on a chain gang and let him rot.

The majority of us in California favor the death penalty.

Going on television to announce "no clemency" might make sense if he also plans on begging for "calm" in gangland.

I think you may be right, clemency.

He would be making a political decision, if so. Not a moral one.

Why does he even need to make an "announcement" ?

He'll commute. If he wasn't he'd send out a fax instead.

" It should be a sad day that we had to put a man to death, not a time to celebrate."

The only sadness I will feel, if he is indeed executed, is the fact that he will die a peacefule death with a needle, instead of what this animal truly deserves, the electric chair or gas chamber.

I'm thinking just the opposite. Lots of talk of violence if there isn't clemency so he feels he needs to get up and speak to the public to try and quell it.

As a Californian who voted him into office, I he gives Clemency to Tookie, he can forget getting my vote again. I am sick and tired of Rhino's - including GW.

I am against the death penalty but I am for due process and upholding the rule of law as written rather than adjudicated.

I will point out that it already is difficult for the government to put someone to death. It takes 10 years and the case goes into automatic appeal. This man has failed all appeals.
