McNabb Responds To Racial Comments Donovan McNabb is not happy a local African-American leader said the Eagles quarterback used race as an excuse for his play on the field this year.
The latest Eagles' controversy has been brewing for more than a week, when local NAACP leader Jerry Whyatt Mondesire wrote an opinion piece for the Philadelphia Sun, which claimed McNabb used the "race card" as an excuse for his poor play.
Today, parts of an interview with McNabb ran in the Philadelphia Daily News, in which McNabb blasts Mondesire. The comments were originally made to reporters on Dec. 11, but are starting to surface now.
"If you talk about my play, that's one thing. When you talk about my race, now we've got problems," McNabb said.
"For the guy with the NAACP, I always thought the NAACP supported African-Americans, not talked bad about them."
McNabb is currently off his feet after hernia surgery and played injured for the Eagles since training camp until mid-November, when he was ruled out for the season.
However, Mondesire took McNabb to task in a blistering column that has a lot of people talking in the local African-American community.

After reading this article, I'm thinking these comments are personal and there's more to this story or at least this NAACP chief's feelings.

I think McNabb cannot wait to get out of Philadelphia. They booed him when he was drafted, and now they're turning on him there again. Come to Detroit Donovan, we need a QB.

I guess if McNabb kisses his butt then he'd be QB of the year, maybe get an NAACP image award even.

Being a good pro quarterback has to sorta transcend race...if the uberliberal wish they were black and talented too sportswriters could ever see that
i never think of my homeo local QB Mcnair as black though he damnd surelooks it when I see him around town
McNabb has probably resented being singled out in his career as a "black" QB...and he has to put up with that foolio Owens
