Bush to address the nation on Iraq Sunday

President Bush will address the nation about Iraq on Sunday evening, his first speech from the Oval Office since he announced the beginning of the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.

The address at 9 p.m. EST comes on the heels of a two-week, four-speech blitz to build support for a war that a majority of Americans now say was a mistake. The White House said it was asking television networks for live coverage of the president's address, expected to run less than 20 minutes.

"The Iraqi people have just concluded a historic election, and we now are entering a critical period for our mission in Iraq," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Friday.

"The president will talk about the importance of our mission and the way forward in 2006," he said.

The elections prove that President Bush was right all along and that we need to stay the course.

VICTORY IS the only correct exit strategy.

I'm curious to see if the networks honor the White House request for coverage.

"...for a war that a majority of Americans now say was a mistake"

I doubt that a majority of Americans believe that. I bet a majority of spineless Euros or Canadians believe that, but not Americans.

Well, his speeches have been pretty good on the war, so here is hoping!

Given the overwhelmingly negative coverage of this war -- almost all seemingly aimed at showing the war was a mistake -- I have no doubt that a majority of Americans have serious misgivings about the war. Ours is a decadent society, where political gamesmanship has replaced statesmanship. There's still time to get our act back together, but not much time -- and it will require an honesty and fortitude that seems inaccessible to most Americans.

If they don't, we should rip them to shreds.

Fox news will cover it, as they have his 4 recent speeches about Iraq during weekdays. I don't even bother to check CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, etc.

The majority of Americans support President Bush. They know the terrorists want to attack us again, and understand that victory is not an option. We have an all-volunteer military - people who come from all states and various backgrounds. They represent the majority.

The DemoRats are allies of the terrorists, and will lose even more seats in Congress next year.

I'm sure cable will cover it, but I'm very interested to see if the networks give up their precious prime time for a president they can't stand.

The worst nightmare of the eastern establishment is a successful conclusion to our overthrow of the Saddam regime. That, unfortunately includes some members of his father's administration. It would prove not only the fecklessness of the Clinton's administration but that of "realists" such as Powell and Scowcroft who resisted the overthrow in 1991.

When fighting for human rights and freedom is a mistake that's when I know the world has gone crazy.

Was Rosa parks actions a mistake? Was ending slavery a mistake? Was taking down Al Capone and the KKK a mistake? The only mistake that was made was accepting these dictatorial regimes as long as we did. They have way too much power over the media, our so called friendly allies, and most importantly average people subject to their cruelty.

I know this makes liberal whiners queasy but, now we have to get rid of that nut-job in Syria and the crack pot in Iran. Also, there are many corrupt dictators in Africa. We might have a better time there because it's more PC helping out black people. Heck, we might even get lucky and find one of those countries is being led by white Dictators...that way the whole world would help out....wait a minute. That already happened in South Africa.

Let Freedom Reign!!!

I maintain hope, I see that we have come a long way in the last few years, the last election was a strong indicator that a majority of Americans believe the Iraq war was the right thing to do given what we knew then. Bush has not backed down on any front, my only real complaint is the lack of border security, but that is more the fault of the state and federal elected body than it is the President. Personally I think we need to purge the Senate every few years, we have too many lifers in there.

Don't hold your breath. Even if they do, they'll have a Benedict Arnold to refute everything Bush says.
