Jimmy Carter Assumed Same Spy Power As Bush...during the press conference today some reporter actually prefaced his question with the statement "Since 1979 thousands of cases have been considered by the FISA court..." - the implications of his statement apparently went right over the heads of all those there.......

"I think I am reading this correctly whereby even if you are a US Citizen but engage in terrorist acts then the President has the right to use the this act. Am I missing something?"

No, that is the salient point--and part of what was changed immediately following 9/11.

The DNC/MSM pretend this change in the law never happened.

OK Carter's a Dolt that I agree with. If you want to get to the root cause as to the rise of terrorist attacks though go back to the POTUS before him and his EO on prohibitions of assassinations upon foreign heads of state. Who was that man? Executive Order 11905: United States Foreign Intelligence Activities February 18, 1976 Pres. Gerald R. Ford followed by Pres. James Carter Executive Order 12036: United States Intelligence Activities 24 Jan 78 .

Yes sad to say even Reagan signed such a flawed EO as well. It seems that is why all the Thugs who were and are Thugs thought they could support terrorist groups and not be harmed doing so.

If there is any doubt look at the terrorist attacks since 1961 and see when it became prevalent. If this links up

By 1979 things were heating up. It didn't take long for them to get organized. Terrorism rose substantially because no head of any foreign nation feared retribution from the United States. No matter how well intended the prohibition EO were they produced some horrific results of which we are still dealing with today.

This isn't the same Carter who wanted to weld shut the silo hatches on our tactical submarine fleet?

Democrats are HYPOCRITES!!

They are, and hypocrisy fits 'em to a tee. But the word, "hypocrisy," needs an "upgrade"--much the same as the word, "rascal" or "miscreant." We need a word with more political traction. A word that will stick, and also condemn the 'rats immediately. Suggestions?

"The New York Times" is not some monolithic faceless alien oracle.

It is run by this man Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and his cadre of socialist crook propagandists from NYC's 42nd st.

Sulzberger is an enemy of the state and should be surveilled and brought up on charges of sedition.

[T]he Attorney General is authorized to approve electronic surveillance to acquire foreign intelligence information without a court order, but only if the Attorney General makes the certifications required by that Section
Note the bold. The current controversy is about Bush ignoring or sidestepping the certification requirements.

The current controversy is about Bush ignoring or sidestepping the certification requirements.

I don't think that's it at all. You've missed the point.

In the original NYT article, there was no mention of Bush "sidestepping" or "ignoring" certification requirements.

According to the original NYT article, Bush Lets U.S. Spy on Callers Without Courts, Bush's order was blatantly illegal because it made court-approved warrants unnecessary.

This business about how it would have been legal, except for the fact that certain certification requirements were not met, is utter BS. Now that the media has had a couple days to calm down and actually LOOK AT THE LAW, they are coming up with this BS about "certifications not met". Originally, they were saying that it was altogether illegal!

They have already retreated from the position that it's altogether illegal to the position that it's legal except that the President failed to meet certain conditions. It's a manufactured scandal from the get-go! All certification requirements have been met by the President. This entire controversy is over NOTHING. All it's accomplished is to give the press something to drool over, and to give the NYT something to brag about. It's disgusting! And the worst of it is that it has hurt our country!
