Men Face criminal charge for Xbox Tampering

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors have charged three men with copyright infringement for selling modified Xbox consoles that enabled the original video game machine from Microsoft Corp. to play pirated games.
The criminal complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday named ACME Game Store co-owners Jason Jones, 34, and Jonathan Bryant, 44, as well as Pei "Patrick" Cai, 32.

His start came with his co-inventing the harddisk operating system. Before Gates, there was only tape. :-)
Gates contracted with IBM to manufacture his product. IBM held steadfast to it's design patent after Gates wanted to outsource the exclusives he gave IBM.

He did so by selling a product which he did not yet have. He then approached several operating system designers. One of them sold him Quick and Dirty Operating System, which Bill renamed MSDOS.
He got the money from two places. One was his daddy, an Intellectual Property lawyer and also from sales of his BASIC compiler, which he got by stealing the work of others.
There are a couple of sad points to this. One, he was turned down by the creator of CP/M, which was a pretty good operating system compared to the kludge which was QDOS. Second, he wasn't tossed in jail for his antics. People who get away with crimes like theft and fraud generally go on to perpetuate larger thefts and frauds.

I'll bite! I get your argument for the liar and theif bit. 'Socialist'? I get the impression I'll be inviting you to jump on your hobby horse soap box here but, it is Christmas, so go on...... why a 'socialist'?
Why? Because he is giving away billions of dollars to save some of the suffering this planet offers to its denizens?
"A liar, a thief, and a Socialist," ...and Time's "Man of the Year. If you steal enough and ruin enough competitors so that you can give an infinitesimal fraction of the loot to liberal causes, you can buy honors like that in this evil world.
