Gonzales Asked Germany to Hold Hijacker

WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales personally asked the German government not to release a terrorist accused of killing a Navy diver, but was rebuffed, the Bush administration said Wednesday.
Mohammed Ali Hamadi was freed on parole by German authorities after serving 19 years of a life sentence for the 1985 hijacking of a TWA plane during which a U.S. Navy diver was killed. The 17-day ordeal riveted the United States and brought Middle East terrorism home for many Americans.
``We did, at senior levels at the U.S. government, contact the German authorities to emphasize that we thought it was important that he serve out his entire term, but we did so with a full understanding that under German law it was highly likely that he was going to be released,'' State Department Sean McCormack said.
A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity because discussions are ongoing, said the United States believes Hamadi was released from temporary custody in Lebanon and has disappeared.
Lebanon is an emerging U.S. ally in the volatile Middle East, with a new democratically elected government and growing diplomatic and economic ties with the West. Lebanon's Syrian-allied president remains in office, however, and the country is still largely defined by sectarian politics.
The United States has no extradition treaty with Lebanon.

Your comment on Munich reminded me of the show the History channel did on the murders of the Israelis. They interviewed German officials that just laffed it off. Its enough to make anyone sick.

Well, our opinions differ. I tend to agree with the high opinion Gen. George S. Patton had and Taki Theodoracopoulous has of the Germans.
On the other hand, the murderer of Petty Officer Stethem needs to soon go through a short final period in his life where he rues the day he was released from that German prison.
We should halt all trade and travel to/from Germany and the US and place sanctions on other countries airlines that travel to Germany.. and also pull out all personel from that country until the day they deliver this mans live or dead carcass to US authorities.
Let them go and re-capture the animal.
If we did this...they would deliver him to us..they would simply have to do it...somehow...or let their economy die.

It's time to remove our remaining military bases from Germany. Poland would most likely welcome an American air base or two as would a few other East European countries. This is complete BS. Germany is not and has not ever been any kind of ally in the GWOT. Germany is clearly our enemy. Time to leave.
Germanys economy sucks and their unemployment rate is soaring. They with the french are taking the poor brits for a ride in the EU. I say stop trading with them I mean really what do we need from Germany... BMW'S please. Japans cars are eating them alive and look much cooler. They are also a better ally.

I agree, we should seriously think about calling for a boycott of imports from Germany. Most German, not all, have the characteristics of ungrateful, twoface, back-stabbers. We should call for a boycott every product that is made in Germany: wine, cars, insurance, and southern German companies, so on. Hurt them in their pocketbook, don't take any vacations over there.
