For newspapers and networks, upheaval was the story of the year
The Boston Globe ^ | 12/25/05 | Joanna Weiss

It was a year of goodbyes -- some noble, some less so -- as journalism's old guard departed from the spotlight. And it was a year when some of media's biggest institutions started thinking, in earnest, about reinvention.

Dan Rather took his colorful metaphors and erratic temperament from CBS in March, his reputation marred by a flawed report about President Bush and the National Guard. Peter Jennings, suave and substantive, died tragically of lung cancer in August.

Ted Koppel, who brought wit and heft to late-night news, left ABC's ''Nightline" in November, headed for less grueling work at HBO. Aaron Brown, CNN's cerebral everyman, was dropped, mid-contract, that same month, when the cable network anointed Anderson Cooper as its passionate marquee face.

I'm actually amazed that they mentioned this and even bothered to use the word, "Flawed."

I'm also amazed they called him, "President Bush.

Weiss claims there have been more journalists killed in Iraq since 2003 than were killed in 20 years of war in Vietnam. I think she is quoting Baghdad Bob as a source.

Re Dan Rather, imagine there was no Internet, and therefore, no pajamahadeen! (Shudder!) Of course that applies to all of the MSM and their bias.

"Colorful metaphors"? "Erratic temperament"?

How about "brown BS" and "hateful arrogance"?

Flawed report? How about forged report?

Since the underlying facts were correct, albeit not in evidence, the report was not necessarily false, even though it could not be substantiated with facts, aside from those whch had to be manufactured, due to lack of available actual facts and evidence. Therefore, the report was actually true, because Bush couldn't disprove it with irrefutable evidence to the contrary. Remember, it's the gravity of the charge that is most important, except when a Democrat is the target.

Merry Christmas!
